Registration for the Lakota West fall girls’ hoops league is still open for Lakota students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. League play will begin Sept. 12 and end Oct. 17.

The league provides the opportunity for young girls to develop and work on their basketball skills with the aid of Lakota West High School coaches before the winter basketball season begins.

All games and instruction will be held at Lakota West High School on Monday evenings.

Many Lakota Tomahawk football teams played playoff games last weekend, Oct. 16-17, on the high school football field at Lakota East.

The last week of the playoffs will take place the weekend of Oct. 30-31.

The season will conclude the weekend of Nov. 6-7 with the Tomahawk Invitational. During this event, sixth graders are broken up into squads of their future high school – Lakota East or Lakota West.

The Lakota Tomahawks hosted a breast cancer awareness fundraiser at Tomahawk Stadium this weekend, Oct. 2-3. It was the first time that the youth football organization has held a charitable event.

“Our thoughts were that we are such a large community group, with a large community presence that it was time for us to give back,” said Kristina Katona, organizer of the event.

“We chose breast cancer because October is breast cancer awareness month and many of our own Tomahawk family members have been impacted by this terrible disease.”

Registration for the Lakota Kids Wrestling Club will be held Oct. 6 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Lakota West High School.

The club is open to all Lakota district students in grades one through six. The minimum age limit for wrestlers is six.

The cost to join the club is $80 per child, which includes a tee shirt and a year-end party. A family rate is also available.

The club will begin practicing Nov. 4. Practices will be held in the Lakota West High School wrestling room.

Late registration will also be available on the first night of practice from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
