Posted by akiefaber May 19th, 2011, 10:04 am Post a Comment

Alicia’s Lungs, a charity raising funds for Lakota graduate Alicia Lang, who has cystic fibrosis and needs to have a double-lung transplant, will be having multiple fundraisers this week.

Alicia Lang gradLang graduated from Lakota West High School in 2010, but has been fighting the lung disease cystic fibrosis since she was five years old.

Lang is currently listed for a double-lung transplant at Loyola in Chicago and at the Cleveland Clinic. The transplant could take place this summer, but could be scheduled for a later date depending when a lung becomes available.

The family is anticipating around $350,000 in bills that will not be covered by their insurance, which covers 80 percent of the cost.

The first event will take place tonight, May 19, at the Chick-fil-A located at 7733 Voice of America Park Dr. in West Chester. Between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., the restaurant will give 15 percent of the cost of your meal to Alicia’s Lungs. An Alicia Lungs/Chick-fil-A flyer must be presented at the time of purchase.

Then, this Sunday, May 22, the charity will be having a benefit walk at Lakota West High School.

Registration for the walk will begin at 1 p.m., the walk itself will start at 2 p.m. and all activities after the walk will end at 5 p.m.

Activities include a DJ, a fire truck, food and drinks, popcorn and cotton candy. There will also be a silent auction with items that include a signed football by Dick LeBeau, signed baseballs by Dusty Baker, Brandon Phillips and other Reds players, hand-made baby quilts from Alicia’s “Myrtle Beach” grandmother and gift certificates from local restaurants.

People are also asked to bring in gently used items for a yard sale that is being planned by Girl Scout troop #40935.

Each walker, who raises $50 or more in pledges, will receive an Alicia’s Lungs T-shirt.

Sponsorship brochures and guidelines on securing pledges can be found at facebook.com/aliciaslungs.
