There will be a pair of activities in West Chester designed to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, which is tomorrow, Jan. 17, 2011. The holiday is observed each year on the third Monday in January in honor of King’s birthday, which is Jan. 15.
“A March for Unity in Our Community” commemorates the marches of the Civil Rights movement and will start at noon tomorrow. The march will begin at Union Day School on Cincinnati-Dayton Road. Marchers will walk from the school to West Chester Presbyterian Church. At the church, participants of the march will have a light lunch and fellowship.
Union Day School is located at 8735 Cincinnati-Dayton Road in West Chester. West Chester Presbyterian Church is located about a half mile from the school on Cincinnati-Dayton Road.
Later tomorrow night, the “Live the Dream: Out Declaration of Unity” celebration will take place at Cornerstone Methodist Church on Princeton Glendale Road. That celebration will begin at 7 p.m. and will include relevant speakers, musical entertainment and winners of the Lakota Local Schools Martin Luther King, Jr. essay and art contest.
Cornerstone Methodist Church is located at 7600 Princeton-Glendale Road in Liberty Township. The church is located near the Tylersville Road intersection.
Both events are free and open to the public.
