West Chester Township will kick off the holiday season Nov. 16 with the lighting of the community tree in front of the West Chester Township administrative offices.
It’s part of the annual Olde West Chester Christmas Walk events presented by The Merchants of Olde West Chester. Now in its 24th year, activities will take place along Cincinnati-Dayton Road between West Chester Road and Union Day School.
Events run from about 1 p.m. through the 8 p.m. tree lighting ceremony at the township’s administration building.
This year’s event will also end a year-long celebration of the fire department’s 50th anniversary celebration. It will be highlighted in the 7 p.m., parade, with its theme Fire Up the Christmas Spirit.
Grand Marshall for the parade will be Lawrence Cox, one of the community’s first volunteer firefighters.
An open house at the Cincinnati-Dayton Road Fire Station 71 will also take place from 1-3 p.m.
“This is the first year that more than 50 businesses will be participating,’’ said Bill Lendl, one of the organizers. “It’s the only evening (holiday) parade in Butler County and it attracts a lot of people.”
The parade will begin at Union Day School at 7 p.m., and proceed down Cincinnati-Dayton Road to the township administration building for the tree lighting immediately following the parade, around 8 p.m.
