A total 24 teams will compete this Saturday at the Thunderhawk Regional FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Lego League tournament in attempt to qualify for the iSPACE District Tournament.
The robot competitions, which will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., are free to attend and will be held on the Lakota East Freshman School, 7630 Bethany Lane.
While the competition will be for teams, ages 5-15, with small robots, there will also be larger robots on display. The Thunderhawks, a team comprised of local high school students, and Infinite Resistance, a team made up of local 7th and high school students, will be showing off their robots from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Both teams competed in the FIRST® Championship, held in St. Louis, Mo., at the Edward Jones Dome last April. The event featured athletes, celebrities and 12,000 students from 32 countries.
