Registration for the popular winter storytimes at the MidPointe Library West Chester begins next Saturday, Dec. 15.

Winter storytime sessions begin Jan. 7 and run through March 2.

Registration is available starting Dec. 15 by visiting the MidPointe Library West Chester Youth Services Desk or by calling 513-777-3131 x. 2. The MidPointe Library West Chester is located at 9363 Centre Pointe Drive.

Registration for the library program “If You Give a Mouse a Christmas Cookie” began Saturday, Dec. 1. This program will take place on Monday, Dec. 17 at 6:30 p.m. and will feature stories, games, crafts and a visit from the Christmas Cookie Mouse. While this event is geared for children aged 3 to 5, all are welcome.

Throughout January and February, the West Chester Library will be offering family storytimes every weekday that don’t require registration.

These programs will be held in the Children’s Program Room in the West Chester Library. The storytimes will last approximately 30 minutes. All ages are invited to attend.

For the next two months, the registration free storytimes will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Mondays, at 10 a.m. Tuesdays-Fridays, 7 p.m. Wednesdays and at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays. Occasionally, 10 a.m. storytimes will take place on Saturday. There will also other storytimes for young children during both months that require registration.

Food for Fines recap: The Middletown Public Library System’s first Food For Fines program, which gave library users the opportunity to waive overdue fines in exchange for the donation of non-perishable items, resulted in $5,855.99 in waived fines and more than 7,000 items donated to local charitable organizations. The promotion took place between Nov. 1-Dec. 31.

The West Chester Library is beginning to form a new young adult board. A “get acquainted” meeting will held Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the West Chester Library’s Community Room.

The young adult board is for teens attending seventh grade through high school, who also enjoy reading young adult books.

Meanwhile, a storyteller will be sharing stories from Peru, the country featured at this year’s Middfest, at the library next Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m. Stories will be geared for elementary school children. No registration is needed for this free event.

The West Chester Library recently announced the dates and times for its 2011 spring storytimes. One series of storytimes will allow families to drop in and the other series will require registration to attend. Registration for these sessions begins Saturday, March 5 at 9 a.m.

The drop-in series of storytimes will be held each Tuesday from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. beginning March 22 and lasting until April 26. Additional drop-in storytimes will be available on the following Saturdays, March 26, April 9 and April 29 from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The drop-in sessions do not require registration, but space will be limited. These sessions are for children of all ages, but geared to those aged from three to four.

The series of storytimes that require registration are geared for children six months to four years old. The six-week series, which will be separated into three age groups, will begin March 21 and last through April 28.

The storytime group for children aged six months-to-23 months will meet Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. or at 10:30 a.m. March 22-April 26. The same age group will also meet on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. or 11:15 a.m. March 24-April 28. Each session will take approximately 30 minutes.

A storytime group will also be geared for two year olds. That group will hold 20-minute sessions Wednesdays at 10 a.m. or 11 a.m. March 23-April 27 and Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. March 24-April 28.

The Rotary Club of West Chester/Liberty recently made a donation that allowed the West Chester Library Children’s Department to purchase new books. Through that donation, the library added additional copies of popular children’s books, which include “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” “Harry Potter,” “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” and “Pigeon” picture books.

The children’s department also recently announced that it would host another session of free storytimes for parents with children ages six months through four years old.

Registration for Fall Storytime Session II begins Saturday, Oct. 23 at 9 a.m. The session will take place from Nov. 8 through Dec. 9.
