Sue Kiesewetter reports:
A West Chester Township girl scout troop is asking the community’s help to fill and collect shoe boxes full of small gifts for children.
Troop 48672 from St. John the Evangelist Church in West Chester Township is leading the effort – a project through Operation Christmas Child.
Standard sized shoe boxes should be filled with gifts for a boy or girl in one of three age groups: 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14. Items can include small toys such as cars, balls, dolls, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yo’s, jump ropes, small Etch-a-Sketch, and toys that make noise or light up.
Also include hygiene items, hard candy, lollipops, mints, gum, t-shirts, socks, ball caps, sunglasses, hair clips, toy jewelry, watches, flashlights and extra batteries for anything requiring them.
Don’t include used items, war-related toys such as guns, knives, or military figures, food, breakable items or aerosol cans.
Shoe boxes can be dropped off at the church through Sunday, Nov. 18, 9080 Cincinnati-Dayton Road. Drop off boxes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5-7 p.m., through Friday; or from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.
Last year more than 4,000 shoe boxes were collected for Operation Christmas Child, operated by Samaritan’s Purse, an international Christian relief operation that delivers the boxes to impoverished children around the world.
