During the weekend of Jan. 18-20, OMEA (Ohio Music Education Association) District 13 held its annual Honor Band Festival at Mason High School.
District 13 consists of all schools in Butler, Preble, Clinton and Warren counties.
From these schools, students auditioned in December and were selected to participate in three bands: 9th Grade Honor Band, Symphonic Winds (grades 10-12), and Wind Symphony (grades 10-12).
The Honor Bands met one evening in January for a read through of the concert music and then convened again on Friday evening for rehearsal, then again all day on Saturday for rehearsal, and culminating in a concert on Sunday afternoon. A guest conductor, usually from a college or university band program, directs each band.
Lakota West had 31 freshman participate in the 9th Grade Honor Band and 71 High School students participate in the Symphonic Winds and Wind Symphony Honor Bands – more than any other high school in District 13.
