Community Foundation’s Key Event to take place Saturday

The Community Foundation of West Chester/Liberty will be hosting their 19th annual Key Event this Saturday. The event is the Community Foundation’s largest fundraiser of the year.

This unique event draws more than 600 people and raises more than $140,000. According to the Community Foundation, the money raised at the event allows it to fulfill its mission of facilitating charitable dollars through its grants to nonprofit organizations serving the community.

This year, the Key Event will begin with a cocktail party at 5 p.m. at the Savannah Center in West Chester. The event will feature a silent and live auction, as well as a basket raffle.

Upon arrival at the Savannah Center, guests randomly pick a key that will open a door revealing their random dining destination in one of the 30-plus area homes.

Each home will feature a local chef, who will prepare a unique dinner for Key Event guests.

Chefs include Michelle Brown from Jags, Nat Blanford from Embers, Troy Meyers from Troy’s Café and Catering, Brittney Holland from P&G, personal chefs Pam and Paul Sturkey, Linda and Jim Pitrelli from Pitrelli’s Italian Ristorante, personal chef Kenneth Webber, Lisa and David Cook from Daveeds’s NEXT, Lisa Lizzio from At Your Service Catering, Paul Deggenbach from The Polo Grille, Bryan Hopping from Eddie Merlots, Mark Bodenstein from Nicholson’s Tavern & Pub, Jackson Rouse from Smog, Lori Cole from Savory Medody’s, Chris Hendricks from Stone Creek Dining, Jaime Carmody from Out of Thyme and Kevin Worthington and Joel Gragorcyk of Palomino Rotisserie and Bar.

The evening concludes with an after party hosted at the home of Dick and Patti Alderson.

Johnny Bench and other baseball legends will be in West Chester next Saturday, Oct. 29, for a fundraiser dinner that will benefit the Character and Courage Foundation, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping youth, who are physically handicapped, diagnosed with a life threatening illness or live in impoverished areas, by giving them the opportunity to play baseball.

Joining Bench at the event, which will begin at 6 p.m. at the Savannah Center, is Jim Kaat, Steve Garvey, Ryne Sandberg, Ozzie Smith, Mike Schmidt, Andre Dawson, Al Kaline and Roberto Clemente Jr. During the event, the former star players will share stories from their playing days in a roundtable format.

Johnny BenchThe cost for a single ticket at the event is $200. A table costs $2,000, a corporate table is $2,500 and VIP table is $5,000.

Each ticket includes light appetizers, dinner, beer and wine, dessert and an opportunity to bid on auction items.

Heroes’ Fund Celebration to take place Nov. 5

The fourth annual Heroes’ Fund Celebration is scheduled to take place Nov. 5 at The Savannah Center in West Chester. The event will benefit the Heroes’ Fund mission of providing one-time financial support to local combat veterans and their families.

The event, which begins at 5:30 p.m., will feature former WLW radio talk show host Gary Burbank as the emcee, cuisines from Savannah Center’s Chef Henry, dancing to the big band sounds of the Tom Daugherty Orchestra and the opportunity to bid on silent auction items.

Raffle tickets for a 60” LCD television home entertainment package can also be purchased at the event for $10 per ticket or for $30 per five tickets.

Individual tickets to the event are $50. For a table of 10 and a chance to dine with Gary Burbank, is $450.

The event will also feature a cash bar.

Regional development forum scheduled for Thursday

The Cincinnati Business Courier, the Dayton Business Journal and the West Chester ▪ Liberty Chamber Alliance are presenting a regional development forum, focusing on crucial job issues, this Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Savannah Center.

The forum will feature speaker Mark Kvamme, head of JobsOhio, which is Governor John Kasich’s new jobs creation vehicle.

Also featured at the event will be Dr. Kevin Joseph, CEO of West Chester Hospital, and Jeff Hoagland, who is the CEO of the Dayton Development Coalition.

The Savannah Center is located at 5533 Chappell Crossing Boulevard.

Wedding cake decorating contest coming to Savannah Center

Sweet Victory

Cincinnati Wedding Magazine and Duncan Hines are hosting the second annual “Sweet Victory” event next Thursday, Feb. 10, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Savannah Center in West Chester. The event will feature a wedding cake decorating contest.

The wedding cake decorating contest will include Bakery Hill at the Midwest Culinary Institute, The BonBonerie, Fantasy in Frosting, the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza and Patricia’s Wedding Cakes. The cakes will be judged on both taste and design at the end of the 70-minute long competition.

While the competition is taking place, guests can enjoy sweets at tasting stations. One highlight of the dessert stations will feature Duncan Hines’ “cake pops,” which are miniature cakes on sticks.

“Sweet Victory” is a free event, but reservations are required and spacing is limited.
