While the Taste of Cincinnati will be taking place this Memorial Day weekend in Downtown Cincinnati, there will also be plenty of activities happening in Liberty Township and West Chester.

Friday

Lakota East Relay for Life – The Lakota East Athletic Department will be sponsoring its second annual Relay for Life event, benefiting the American Cancer Society this Friday and Saturday at the high school. The relay is an 18-hour walk or run around the track of the football stadium all throughout the night and into the morning. The relay will begin at 4 p.m. Friday and conclude at 10 a.m. Saturday. Team registration is open to students of Lakota East High School (9-12), staff and family members only. For more information, visit www.relayforlife.org/lakotaeast.

Lakota West Chamber Choir to perform – The Lakota West Chamber Choir will perform the works of Rachmaninoff, Victoria, Billings, Mahler and Hogan at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 7393 Dimmick Road, in West Chester at 7 p.m. Friday. The performance, led by director Anthony Nims, is free to attend. The Lakota West Chamber Choir is a highly select extra-curricular ensemble of 21 mixed voices. The group rehearses Monday and Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. and performs a collegiate level repertoire.

Saturday

Karen Moeller Scholarship Fun Run/Walk – Last June, the Lakota community lost a loved one when longtime teacher Karen Moeller passed away. Just less than a year later, members of the community will honor the elementary school teacher by participating in the Karen Moeller Scholarship Fun Run/Walk at Voice of America Park at 9 a.m. Saturday. The event will benefit the Karen Moeller Scholarship Fund, which awards two scholarships each year to high school students based on academics and contributions to Lakota and to his or her community. The cost per participant on the day of the event is $20. Those walk-ups are encouraged to arrive at least 30 minutes before it begins.

West Chester Farmers Market

Art market returns with farmers’ market- For the second time in 2012, the art market will be at the West Chester farmers’ market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Square at Union Centre Saturday. The farmers’ market, which takes place at the same time every Saturday, features all local vendors with produce and meats grown and raised locally and products made by hand.

Gaze at the stars at Keehner Park – West Chester Township will be offering its second Star Gazing program of 2012 this Saturday at 9 p.m. at Keener Park. The program is free to the public and will take place near the tennis courts at the park. The Cincinnati Astronomers Society will be providing their telescopes so that the public can view the stars and planets up close. Visitors are encouraged to bring along questions and be ready to learn about the stars and planets.

Monday

West Chester Memorial Day parade – To honor fallen service men and women, the West Chester Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7696 will once again have a Memorial Day parade that will begin at 10 a.m. at Union Day School. The parade will end at Brookside Cemetery on West Chester Road. A ceremony, featuring the Lakota East and Lakota West Marching Bands and honored guests, will follow the parade.
