Mike Dyer reports:
Lakota West football coach Larry Cox doesn’t dwell on what the latest playoff projections are for his squad, but he’s heard the chatter about how the Firebirds locked up a spot last week.
According to longtime playoff projection analyst Steve Shuck, Lakota West (7-1) is one of the area teams projected to be safely in the postseason as the season entered Week 9 on Thursday.
“It’s always been my theory to take one week at a time and the kids have taken that approach,” Cox said. “Every week has its own little challenges.”
In fact, Shuck projected Lakota West among the top eight teams in Division I, Region 2, which would mean hosting a first-round playoff game. Cox was pleased with last week’s 66-7 win over Princeton, but he’d prefer to focus on Friday’s opponent Oak Hills instead of the postseason.
“We haven’t played the perfect game yet,” Cox said.
