Deirdre Shesgreen reports:
A liberal super PAC is targeting House Speaker John Boehner in a new ad called “Temper Tantrum” and featuring a crying baby.
The ad, paid for by House Majority PAC, a Democratic outfit, blasts the West Chester Republican over the government shutdown. “Speaker John Boehner didn’t get his way on shutting down healthcare reform,” the narrator says. “So he shut down the government and hurt the economy.”
The spot, which ran Sunday during the Bengals’ game against the New England Patriots, is part of a campaign by the group to target House Republicans in the current impasse of federal funding. Boehner and other GOP leaders have insisted that any spending bill to keep the government running must include provisions attacking the president’s health reform law.
Boehner has strongly defended the GOP position.
“Obamacare is a law that’s going to raise the cost of health insurance premiums and make it almost impossible for employers to hire new people,” he said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week.” “It’s a law the American people do not want and cannot afford. … Providing fairness to the American people, under Obamacare, is — all we’re asking for.”
