Polly Campbell reports:
The Elks Golf and Swim Club on route 4 in Liberty Township has a new restaurant, which is open to the public. It’s called Fairways on 4.
Brittany Oakley is one of the owners. She grew up at the Elks, on the swim team starting at age 3, and working her first job there when she was 14. “This used to be the place to be in Liberty Township,” she said, “We want to bring it back as a destination.”
Like the restaurant, which seats 140, the banquet facilities are open to the public; one does not have to be a member to reserve a room for an event or stop in for lunch or dinner.
The restaurant is open weekends through September, but after a grand opening on September 29, will be open full-time. It serves “generously portioned” salads, including a black and blue salad with steak and blue cheese dressing; appetizers such as onion straws, blackened shrimp and caddie crabbie patties; sandwiches, including a Reuben, a Philly, a pulled pork, an evolving selection of entrees that now include ribs, fish and chips and sirloin, and desserts.
Current hours are 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday-Sunday.
