The Lakota East High School Thunderhawk marching band earned a superior rating Saturday at the Buckeye Marching Band Invitational held at The Ohio State University.
The band, under the direction of Rob Tanis and Sherri Voytek, performed the show “Reflections of a Russian Christmas” featuring the works of Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Pavel Chesnokov and Alfred Reed.
Thirty-three bands from across the state performed in the competition. Lakota East, which competed in the AA division, earned the competition’s highest rating.
The band program is now in its 18th year at Lakota East and has received Superior ratings in every adjudicated event it’s competed in, according to the Lakota East Upbeat Club, a booster organization supporting Lakota East bands.
The band will next perform at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Forest Hills Band Expo in Anderson Township.
Band members are holding a fruit, cheesecake, cookie dough and caramel popcorn sale through the end of the month. For more information, go to LakotaEastBands.org.
