Last November’s performance in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has earned the Marching Thunderbirds proclamations from the Ohio House of Representatives and the Ohio Senate.
Students and band officials traveled to Columbus recently to receive the proclamations. They were joined by Superintendent Karen Mantia, Treasurer Jeni Logan, and board of education members Lynda O’Connor and Todd Parnell.
“The entire state of Ohio was proud of your performance on this prestigious national stage,” said Ohio Rep. Margy Conditt, of Liberty Township.
Band director Greg Snyder along with field commanders Meagan Dembicky, Tristan McPhail, Nick Anderson and Kaetlin McVaugh received the proclamations in separate presentations.
“The members of the Lakota West High School marching band have displayed exceptional musical ability, remarkable confidence, and tremendous discipline, and consequently, they were one of only eleven bands in the nation and the only band form Ohio invited to take part in this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving day Parade,” the proclamation read.
“A talented group of young people, the Firebirds have become known as some of the finest musicians in Ohio, and they are deserving of high praise.”
Snyder also received a separate commendation.
