According to Dyer, Horton is visiting Miami today and Cincinnati on Saturday. He also is planning to visit Louisville and Arkansas in the near future.

In addition, Horton has received interest from Penn State and Michigan State, as well as offers from Indiana, Minnesota, Kent State, Toledo, Bowling Green, Western Michigan and Kentucky.

This past Saturday, Horton visited Alabama. He also visited Mississippi State on Sunday. Another SEC school, Arkansas, has shown “strong interest” and also wants to visit Horton, according to Cox.

In 2012, the 6-foot-1, 228-pound Horton rushed for 1,003 yards and 13 touchdowns.

“Horton is probably the best power running back in the Class of 2014,” said Mark Porter, director of ScoutingOhio.com. “His ability to run between the tackles and churn out the tough yards is second to none and just when you think you have him bottled up that’s when Horton shows off his speed. This rare combo of size, power, and speed has college coaches taking notice and the offers are just starting to roll in.”

In connection with National Signing Day, Lakota East High School on Thursday morning honored 17 seniors who will be continuing their athletic careers in college.

Yesterday, which was National Signing Day, marked the start of the NCAA signing period for football, field hockey, soccer, track and field, cross country and men’s water polo. However, Lakota athletic director Richard Bryant chooses to host an event that also honors other students athletes, who have already signed to play other sports.

“Events such as this embody everything that is right with high school athletics – athletic prowess, academic achievement and young people moving onto bigger and better things,” Bryant said. “What a great event.”

On Wednesday, Lakota West honored its future collegiate athletes – today it was Lakota East’s turn.

Among those who were honored this morning include Derek Baker (baseball – Ashland), Ethan Bryant (baseball – Sinclair), Chris Elam (baseball – Lincoln Trail), Jarrett Rindfleisch (baseball – Ball State), Lea Buckenmyer (softball – Goshen), Jake Chestnut (football – Notre Dame College), Richie Gould (football California University of Penn.), Keith Brady (football – Columbia), Ashley Evans (volleyball – Purdue), Madeline Garda (volleyball – Bowling Green), Emily Roth (swimming – Findlay), Kyle Lee (Lacrosse – SUNY Herkimer County Community College), Stedman Lowry (basketball – Hillsdale), Matthew Rice (cross country/track – Harding), Kelly Burrows (cross country/track – Northern Kentucky), Andrea Felix (soccer – Slippery Rock) and Will Mahone (football – Notre Dame College).

The two-time Greater Miami Conference Player of the Year actually signed in November. Joining her at Thursday’s Signing Day ceremony was teammate Madeline Garda, who will be attending Bowling Green.

“Ashley Evans and Madeline Garda are some of the best student athletes to come out of Lakota East and Bowling Green and Purdue are lucky to have them,” Lakota East head volleyball coach Casie Garland said. “They are wonderful volleyball players, but even better people.

“They both have the most positive and hardest working outlooks on life, and will succeed in every aspect of their future. I am so happy for them and will miss them greatly.”

Meanwhile, among those honored at Lakota West on Wednesday include Ben Pendery (football – Dayton), Marshall Stretch (golf – Ohio Dominican), Kyle Meadows (football – Kentucky), Margaret Hare (soccer – Xavier), Audrey Jennings (lacrosse – Queens University of Charlotte), Andres Martinez (golf – Heidelberg), Elle Nguyen (soccer – Northern Kentucky), Ryan Ostendorf (baseball – Wooster), Bryan McNamara (swimming – Miami of Ohio), Nicole Soutar (tennis – Northern Kentucky), Jeffrey Wray (golf – Cincinnati State), Nick Bengal (football – Gannon), Tori Turner (tennis – Wright State), Drew Garbenis (football – Robert Morris), Annie Bierman (volleyball – Furman), Mike Kelly (football – Navy) and Mandy Stanislovaitis (volleyball – Adelphi).
