Junior Malik Grove scored five touchdowns (two passing, three rushing) against Colerain last Friday, but it wasn’t enough as Lakota West fell 57-44 to the Cardinals. Prior to the loss, Lakota West had won all eight of its games this season. Photo by Greg Loring.
After losing its first game of the season, 57-44 to Colerain on Friday, Lakota West fell from No. 4 to No. 6 in the Ohio High School Athletic Association region 4 computer rankings, which were released Tuesday afternoon.
If the computer rankings were to hold, the Firebirds (8-1 overall, 5-1 in Greater Miami Conference) would be playing at No. 3 Elder next week in the regional quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, after its 41-28 win against Fairfield this past Friday, Lakota East climbed a spot from No. 12 to No. 11 in the computer rankings. A win this week at Lakota West and some help, it is possible that the Thunderhawks could sneak into the postseason.
If you were wondering, Lakota West hasn’t been to the postseason since 2009 and Lakota East has never qualified for postseason play.
