Posted by akiefaber November 21st, 2011, 3:00 pm Post a Comment

According to a press release from West Chester Township, the U.S. 42 widening project remains on schedule. The completion date for the entire project is June 2013.

Currently, all subcontractors are progressing northward with the curb placement and the asphalt placement between Dimmick Road and West Chester Road.

It is still the goal of Ohio Department of Transportation and the contractors to complete this part of the project before Dec. 1.

Over the winter months, crews will address drainage on the east side between Fields-Ertel and West Chester Road, and on the north end of the project from West Chester Road to Butler Warren.

A very tentative look ahead to 2012/2013 is to have all major items completed by Dec. 2012 with the exception of surface course asphalt, final striping and final grade/landscaping.

Weather conditions will impact schedule.

While the construction continues, businesses on U.S. 42 will remain open.

West Chester Township offers a monthly construction update meeting for property owners in the impacted area. The meetings are held the first Wednesday of the month at 7:30 a.m. in Township Hall, 9113 Cincinnati-Dayton Road. Updates are also available on the township’s website www.WestChesterOH.org.

Water main work on West Chester Road: Butler County has begun work to replace a water main on West Chester Road between John Road and Barret Road. Traffic on West Chester Road is being maintained throughout the project, with the exception of an anticipated one-day closure to complete the project. The replacement project will take approximately 90 days, weather permitting.

Accident cleared up: Allen Road between Union Centre and Muhlhauser road re-opened around noon Monday after a traffic accident caused damage to a utility pole.

Local roadwork scheduled to take place this week

Posted by akiefaber August 22nd, 2011, 6:36 am Post a Comment

There are a couple road construction projects that will take place in West Chester Township this week that should slow down traffic. Beginning Monday and lasting the rest of the week, water line work will take place at and through the intersection of U.S. 42 and West Chester Road. Meanwhile, also beginning Monday, Tylersville Road in West Chester will close near the Fairfield Township line.

Water line work at the intersection of U.S. 42 and West Chester Road will take place daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and one lane of traffic on each leg of the intersection will be maintained with the use of local law enforcement officers.

Tylersville Road will close, for ditching and embankment repairs, 0.6 mile east of Seward Road and 0.1 mile west of Smith Road/Tylers Reserve Drive. The road is tentatively scheduled to reopen the week of Sept. 19.

This closure is not related to the closure already in effect on Tylersville Road 4.5 miles to the east. That project involves widening the road from two lanes to five between Wetherington Drive and Cincinnati-Dayton Road through Maud.

The widening project began in May and is tentatively scheduled to be completed the week of Sept. 5.

That construction has closed Tylersville Road east of Second Street and west of Cedar Creek Drive since July 5 due to a bridge replacement. During the bridge replacement, access will be maintained to all businesses and residences. Thru traffic, however, will be detoured. Eastbound Tylersville Road traffic will detour south on Cincinnati-Dayton Road and north on Interstate 75. Westbound traffic will reverse this route.

For more information on both Tylersville Road projects, visit www.bceo.org/roadclosings.

I-75 project expected to be finished by month’s end

Posted by akiefaber July 25th, 2011, 12:27 pm Post a Comment

A project to improve Interstate 75 from West Chester Township to Middletown should be completed by the end of the month, according to a report from the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Paul McKibben covered the story for the Cincinnati Enquirer:

Brian Cunningham, spokesman with the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments, said issues existed in the Dayton and Cincinnati areas because of significant traffic volumes.

“And so the projects were essential in increasing safety and enhancing the … flow of freight through this region,” he said.

The work that should be done by the end of July is a $98 million project that added a lane in each direction from Cincinnati-Dayton Road to Ohio 122. Existing lanes were rehabbed. There are now four lanes in each direction. The project also involved constructing an upgraded interchange at the Ohio 63 interchange in Monroe, site of Cincinnati Premium Outlets.

Sharon Smigielski, spokeswoman with the Ohio Department of Transportation District 8, said the new interchange uses one set of traffic signals to control all through and left-turn movements from I-75 onto Ohio 63 and from Ohio 63 to I-75.

Caroline McKinney, economic development director for Butler County’s Liberty Township, said the infrastructure improvements are a good thing regionally.

“It’s important for any business that’s looking at a community that there’s good access. For those of us that are along I-75, that is a very important thoroughfare for our business community and our residents, especially in Liberty Township,” she said.

For more information on the story, visit Cincinnati.com’s post “I-75 project nearly complete.”
