Liberty Township offering children’s fishing program

Posted by akiefaber May 25th, 2012, 10:40 am Post a Comment

Sue Kiesewetter reports

Children and teens can spend the morning learning how to fish during Liberty Township’s fourth annual School of Fish program on June 9.

It is the first of two fishing events put on by the Liberty Township Parks Committee and trustees.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., children will be provided poles and bait at The Reserves Park, 5100 Grandin Ridge Drive, in the Reserves of Liberty subdivision. Instruction will be given in the art of casting, baiting and fishing.

A hot dog lunch will also be provided at no cost. Reservations are not required.

The second event, Passport to Fish, is being planned for Sept. 22. That program is focused on teaching children ages 10 to 15 casting and baiting. It will be limited to 50 children.

“The events have been a success so the Parks Committee and Liberty Township will continue to stage two events aimed at teaching young children the basics of fishing,” said Rick Plummer, the township’s service director.

“We are all really excited to stage these events for the community and look forward to seeing lots of smiles on the kids’ faces,” he said.
