Sue Kiesewetter reports:
Look for collection jars to begin showing up at Liberty Township businesses by the end of the month.
The township’s Parks Committee got the go ahead from trustees this week to solicit funds via the collection jars. Money collected would be placed into a Charitable Community Fund account for park use.
“We’ve never done any kind of donation jar before,’’ said Lisa Day, the committee’s treasurer. “As you know money is always an issue. We’re taking an expanded role.”
Those that agree to accept a container would be listed as sponsors at Parks Committee events.
Besides collecting donations the jars serve a second purpose, Day said – awareness about the different parks located in the township. Pamphlets about the parks, where they’re located, and what features are at each, will be placed alongside the collection jar.
The jars will also contain information on how to contact the committee with suggestions or questions.
“I like the idea of having some of our pamphlets there,’’ said trustee President Christine Matacic.
Money would be used to improve the parks by replacing worn or broken equipment and trails, purchasing and planting plants shrubs and trees, or other similar projects.
No money would be used to pay salaries of township employees.
Once the letter is finalized and printed on township letterhead, Day said she would begin taking them in person to businesses in the township. Containers and pamphlets would be left with those that agree to display the collection jars.
Business owners or managers who would like to participate are invited to call township offices, 513-755-7500 or 513-378-1327.
