Lakota West’s ‘Sweeney Todd’ returns April 8-10

Lakota West High School students will return to the stage to perform the musical “Sweeney Todd” in the Lakota West Theatre April 8-10. The performances on April 8-9 will begin at 8 p.m. The April 10 performance will take place at 2 p.m.

Lakota West SweeneyTodd Lakota West Theatre’s ticket order form provides background of the musical that features music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Hugh Wheeler.

The musical tale of the “demon barber of Fleet Street” has won a whopping 18 Tony Awards for the original production and its ensuing revivals, ensuring its place as one of Broadway’s greatest musicals. Sonheim weaves some of Broadway’s most memorable songs into this powerful tale of revenge and redemption.

Tickets purchased in advance are $12 for adults and $10 for senior citizens (55 and older). Tickets purchased at the door will be $14 for adults and $12 for senior citizens.

Lakota West Theatre presents ‘Fools’ Feb. 2-5

The Lakota West Theatre will perform “Fools,” a comedy by Neil Simon, Feb. 2-5 at 7:30 p.m. at Lakota West High School.

Fools Photo In a press release the Lakota West Theatre provided a description of the play:

When Leon Tolchinsky arrives in Kulyenchikov, he finds the town has been cursed with chronic stupidity for 200 years, and his job is to break the curse. But no one tells him that if he stays over 24 hours and fails to break the curse, he too becomes stupid. To complicate matters further, he has fallen in love with a girl so stupid she has only recently learned how to sit down.

Tickets for the play are $10 for adults and $8 for senior citizens.

Lakota West musical runs this weekend

School House Rock Live!

Freshman students of the Lakota West Theatre program will be performing “Schoolhouse Rock Live!” this weekend at Lakota West High School. The first performance is scheduled to take place tonight, Jan. 20, at 8 p.m. The opening-night performance could be postponed due to a winter storm that has already canceled school in the district.

Additional performances are scheduled to take place Friday, Jan. 21, and Saturday, Jan. 22, at 8 p.m. Tickets for each performance can be purchased for $7 online at www.LakotaWestTheatre.com.

In two weeks, the Lakota West Theatre program will be performing “Fools” by Neil Simon Feb. 2-5 at 7 p.m. Tickets for that show can be purchased online for $10 or $8 (senior citizens and children under 12).

UPDATE: At 9:24 a.m. Jan. 20, the Lakota West Theatre announced that tonight’s performance has been moved to Saturday, Jan. 22, at 4 p.m. The 8 p.m. shows for Friday and Saturday remain on the schedule.

Kidsfest is this Saturday at Lakota West High School

Activities and games centered around children ages 2-to-12 will take place at the 2010 Kidsfest this Saturday, Dec. 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lakota West High School. The Lakota West Theatre is presenting the event.

Admission to Kidsfest is free, however most of the attractions and performances require the purchase of tickets at specially designated booths.

From 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., kids can have their photo taken with Santa or fairytale guests. Kids can also make holiday crafts or take home prizes by playing games.

There will also be facepainting, storytime, temporary tattoos, nail painting and more. Numerous business and organizations will also be in attendance offering other activities.

Funds raised from Kidsfest help maintain the Lakota West Theatre program, which produces five performances a year including Schoolhouse Rock Live! (Jan. 20-22 at 8 p.m. at Lakota West High School). In addition to performances, our theatre program awards college scholarships.

‘Picnic’ presented by Lakota West Theatre continues

Students of the Lakota West Theatre program will continue its performance of the play “Picnic” Nov. 19-20 at Lakota West High School. Both shows begin at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children and seniors.

According to the school’s press release, “Picnic” is a story about a girl named Madge Owens, who is ready to settle down with her steady, sensible boyfriend when the wild stranger Hal Carter breezes into town, igniting feelings in Madge she never knew she had. The annual Labor Day Picnic becomes a backdrop for a tale of longing and regret in this poignant drama, the winner of the 1953 Pulitzer Prize and the Critics Circle Award.

Tickets are available at the door or online on Lakota West Theatre website.

The Lakota West Theatre program will also be sponsoring a “Dine and Donate” event Dec. 7 at City Barbeque, which is located at 7796 Voice of America Center Drive in West Chester. The theatre program will receive 25 percent of any food purchase.

Customers are being asked to show a coupon for the promotion. Those coupons can be downloaded at LakotaWestTheatre.com.
