Lakota West seniors Amanda Lahti and Evan Hodel sign

Posted by akiefaber February 24th, 2012, 3:54 pm Post a Comment

Amanda Lahti Evan Hodel

Seniors Amanda Lahti and Evan Hodel both signed on to continue their athletic careers in college and were honored during a special signing ceremony at Lakota West Thursday.

Lahti signed on to play softball at Ohio Northern, while Hodel agreed to play lacrosse for Division II Wheeling Jesuit University.

Last spring, Lahti helped Lakota West advance to the state softball semifinals by leading the team in hitting with a .430 batting average. She also led the team in hits (34), doubles (5), runs batted in (12), total bases (39), slugging percentage (.494) and on-base percentage (.484).

In the field, Lahti, who played third base, first base and catcher, also led Lakota West with 53 assists.

The 2011 all-Greater Miami Conference first teamer was also considering Wright State and Thomas More.

“The academics Ohio Northern offers are great and I love the coach and the team,” Lahti said. “They have a great softball program because the team is really close and the coach is amazing.”

At Ohio Northern, Lahti plans on studying social studies.

Meanwhile, two-time team captain Evan Hodel picked Wheeling Jesuit over Wittenberg, Otterbein and The Hill Academy.

“When I went on my recruiting visit, I loved the campus. The team had great chemistry and were a tight group of friends,” Hodel said. “They are a young team and still compete against the best teams in their league. They have a chance to fight for a national title.”

In college, Hodel plans on studying biology and chemistry.
