Lakota East and Lakota West name athletes of the week

Posted by akiefaber February 3rd, 2012, 9:57 am Post a Comment

The athletic departments at Lakota East and Lakota West high schools recently named their athletes of the week. Junior Emily Neihaus and senior Jamie Keesling received the honor at Lakota West, while senior Taylor Alden and junior Jimmy McCarthy were honored at Lakota East.

Niehaus led or was tied for the team lead in assists and steals the past three games, at Oak Hills last Wednesday, at Sycamore last Saturday and against Lakota West this Wednesday. She also tied a career high with 11 points in the 68-52 loss against Sycamore.

Keesling was the only double winner for Lakota West wrestling last week. Keesling, who competes at 170 pounds, earned a 2-0 decision in last Wednesday’s match against Lakota East. He also added an 11-8 win at Harrison last Saturday.

Alden, according to EastThunderhawks.com, has been among the team leaders in each of the matches. Also, according to the high school sports website: “Her consistency has helped the team keep pace and helped to push all of her teammates. She has been willing to step into whatever position is asked of her in the baker games and has performed well.”

McCarthy, according to EastThunderhawks.com, rolled a 424 series (221, 203) to lead the boys’ team to their first victory of the season over Kings. This was the high series rolled by any of the boys this year and it came at a good time as it led them to a 99-pin victory. McCarthy also had a solid day bowling in the fifth position on the baker team. Despite being a first-year team member, he has consistently been among the team leaders and has shown good improvement, according to the Lakota East athletic website.

Lakota East and Lakota West name athletes of the week

Posted by akiefaber December 16th, 2011, 10:23 am Post a Comment

The athletic departments at Lakota East and Lakota West high schools recently named their athletes of the week for the second time in the winter sports season. Seniors Adrianna McNeal and Daniel Lindberg received the honor at Lakota West, while junior bowlers Jeff Amlung and Kelly Monroe were honored at Lakota East.

Lakota West at Princeton Despite missing practice in the preseason with a microfracture on her tibia, McNeal helped the Firebirds jump out to 4-0 start this winter. Currently, she leads her team in rebounding with 5.2 rebounds per game and in steals with 2.6 steals per game. Last week, McNeal had her best game of the season when she scored 16 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in a 56-48 loss to Sycamore. Lakota West is now 4-2.

Lindberg was a double winner, and Lakota West’s only winner at last Saturday’s quad meet at Keating Natatorium. Lindberg won both the 200 yard individual medley and the 500 yard free style races. He also added to the Firebirds’ scoring total by swimming legs on two placing relay teams.

Amlung currently leads the Lakota East squad with a 167.6 average. According to the school’s official athletic website, eastthunderhawks.com, “Despite having limited varsity experience, he has stepped into a leadership role on the team. Jeff has worked hard in the offseason and at practice to improve his game. With his work effort he will continue to improve and will be moving up the conference leader board and taking the team with him.”

Monroe currently leads the Lakota East girls’ bowling team with a 122.1 average. According to the school’s official athletic website, eastthunderhawks.com, “Kelly has also worked on her game in the offseason and is showing potential to become a solid bowler in the GMC conference.
