David Lewis announces that he will run against Boehner

Posted by akiefaber September 19th, 2011, 6:47 pm Post a Comment

David Lewis announced that he would run against House Speaker John Boehner in next year’s primary. Lewis made the announcement in front of Boehner’s local office in West Chester Monday.

John Boehner Lewis, who is also a Tea Party member, also posted television advertisements on his website Monday. The three advertisements attack Boehner for “betraying his word.” One ad claims that Boehner could have “defunded” Planned Parenthood, but “caved in to Obama.”

The ads show pictures of aborted fetuses.

According to Lewis’ website, he is a devout Christian, Tea Party leader and pro-life leader. Also according to his web page, Lewis has been recently arrested at John Boehner’s (R) and Harry Reid’s (D) offices over government funding of “businesses that murder children.”

Meanwhile, while Lewis was announcing his candidacy, Boehner was in town giving a speech to small business owners at the University of Cincinnati.

Boehner, in a speech and a question-and-answer session that last about half an hour, had little specific to say about the president’s jobs bill, which was delivered to Congress Monday, or the president’s ideas for reducing the deficit, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Later Monday afternoon, Boehner (photo) went to his hometown of West Chester and toured the Humana RightSource RX facility, which packages medications.

Boehner blames stagnant economy on Democrats

Posted by akiefaber September 2nd, 2011, 7:16 pm Post a Comment

House Speaker and West Chester resident John Boehner gave a speech Friday just after the government released a worse-than-expected jobs report. According to Cincinnati.com, Boehner said the nation’s economy remains stagnant because of the Democrats’ failed agenda.

Cincinnati Enquirer reporter John Johnston covered the speech:

“The American people are still rightly asking: Where are the jobs?” he said.

John BoehnerThe U.S. Department of Labor report said the economy added no new jobs in August, the first time that’s happened in almost a year. The unemployment rate held steady, at 9.1 percent. About 14 million Americans can’t find work.

Boehner, a Republican, said the Republican-controlled House has passed nearly a dozen bills that support job creation and growth, but those measures have stalled in the Democrat-controlled Senate.

“(Democrats) continue to talk about the same thing,” he said. “More stimulus spending, short-term gimmicks, higher taxes, more regulation. We’ve seen all of this before, and it has failed.”

Boehner spoke at the grand opening of the new headquarters for Employers Choice Plus, which handles workers compensation, payroll and human resources administration for businesses. He complimented president John Cacaro and his wife, Trish, for adding 30 workers in the past 18 months, “in spite everything Washington is doing to create (economic) uncertainty.”

Boehner said he’s looking forward to hearing the ideas that President Obama will offer Thursday in a prime-time address during a joint session of Congress. “I’m hopeful the White House and Senate Democrats will work with us on our ideas that will help end economic uncertainty.”

Boehner meets with Obama Saturday despite writing that he had ‘decided to end discussions with the White House’

Posted by akiefaber July 23rd, 2011, 12:35 pm Post a Comment

The Associated Press reported Friday that House Speaker and West Chester resident John Boehner abruptly broke off talks with President Barack Obama on a deal to make major cuts in federal spending and avert a threatened government default.

Barack Obama, John Boehner, Harry Reid, On Saturday, Boehner and Obama convened “fresh talks” aimed at averting a national financial default by the Aug. 2 deadline, according to the AP. The meeting also included Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, Vice President Joe Biden, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.

According to the AP’s report on Friday, Boehner said Obama wanted higher taxes and not enough spending cuts. While, President Obama countered that he had offered an “extraordinarily fair deal” that totaled $2.6 trillion in spending cuts and $1.2 trillion in additional revenue.

Minutes before the story was posted online, Boehner sent the following letter to House Members and staff, which described why Boehner broke off the talks with the White House. He also addressed the press with the same message during a press conference Friday.

Dear Colleague,

Our economy is not creating enough jobs, and the policies coming out of Washington are a big reason why. Because of Washington, we have a tax code that is stifling job creation. Because of Washington, we have a debt crisis that is sowing uncertainty and sapping the confidence of small businesses. Because of Washington, our children are financing a government spending binge that is jeopardizing their future.

Since the moment I became Speaker, I’ve urged President Obama to lock arms with me and seize this moment to do something significant to address these challenges. I’ve urged him to partner with congressional Republicans to do something dramatic to change the fiscal trajectory of our country … something that will boost confidence in our economy, renew a measure of faith in our institutions of government, and help small businesses get back to creating jobs. Boehner at OSU commencement

House Speaker and West Chester resident John Boehner addressed students at The Ohio State University commencement exercises this Sunday, June 12. According to a story written by Julie Carr Smyth of the Associated Press, Boehner gave an eight-minute speech to a record 9,700 graduates.

Below is an excerpt of Smyth’s article:

Saying his own name was often mispronounced – rhyming with the words honor, leaner, even “boner” – Boehner said, “Thank God it’s not Weiner.” Fellow U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner, a New York Democrat, admitted last week to sexually explicit communications with as many as six women via social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

Graduates assembled under clear blue skies. Many sported shorts and flip-flops under their black robes, and some wore mortarboards decked out with scarlet and gray O’s, sequins, gift-wrap bows, feathers or pipe-cleaner creations. Students held balloons or flags to identify themselves, or scanned the crowd – cellphones to their ears – looking for loved ones.

Boehner told graduates that it is important to work hard, persevere and be humble.

“You know, life isn’t always about you,” he said. “I’m a big believer that everything in life is a two-way street, and being useful to others, being involved in your community, finding some way to serve is part as what I would describe as humility.”

With emotion in his voice, Boehner recalled his bartender father working 10 or 12 hours a day yet still finding time to volunteer.

“So before you think about what you want to do in your life, I would suggest to all of you: Think about who you want to be before you think about what you want to be,” he said.

Throughout the month, Boehner has been trying to convince voters to side with the republicans.

In order for republicans to have majority in the House, they will need a net gain of 39 seats to reach the 218-seat majority. With the majority, Boehner could become speaker.

John Boehner speech in West Chester covers jobs and the Obama administration

Posted by akiefaber October 8th, 2010, 1:16 pm Post a Comment

John Boehner

Rep. John Boehner (R- Ohio), the House Minority Leader, gave a speech this afternoon, Friday, Oct. 8, in West Chester on jobs and about the Republican Party. The speech received coverage from numerous members of the local and national media and was held in a warehouse section of United Group Services, which is a piping manufacturer in West Chester.

Boehner, who is in line to become Speaker of the House if Republicans win enough seats in November, began the speech by talking about his prior work experience at his nearby dad’s tavern and as a representative for manufacturers in the packaging and plastics community.

However, the possible future Speaker of the House got to the point early.

“Let me be crystal clear, if it isn’t clear already: This speech is about jobs,” Boehner said. “And this speech is about jobs, because this coming election is about jobs.

“It’s about the jobs that were promised to the American people by the current administration, and never delivered.”

Boehner also questioned the work of the Obama administration and of current House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

“Small businesses, the engine of job creation in America, are gripped by uncertainty. Under President Obama and Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Washington has been throwing everything at them but the kitchen sink,” Boehner said.

“That’s what you got for your $787 billion dollars. Record high unemployment. A bigger government and an economy struggling to create jobs.”

The speech got quite the reaction from his supporters. Boehner received his biggest cheer when he said, “there’s a plan to repeal Obamacare and replace it with common-sense reforms.”

The crowd also erupted at his conclusion.

“Ladies and gentlemen, your government hasn’t been listening,” Boehner said before concluding his speech.

“Your government is disrespecting you, your family, your job, your children. Your government is out of control. Do you have to accept it? Do you have to take it? Hell no, you don’t!”
