The Lakota West boys’ soccer team, tied at No. 3 in The Cincinnati Enquirer coaches preseason poll, defeated No. 5 Moeller in its season opener Tuesday night.

Junior Kyle Brotherton, Joe Clear and senior Kevin Barbour each scored for the Firebirds, while senior goalkeeper Joe McClanahan needed three saves to shut out the Crusaders.
Next up, Lakota West will host Worthington Kilbourne, who like Lakota West won a district championship in 2011, this Saturday at 3 p.m. The schedule won’t let up a bit, as next Thursday, Aug. 30, the Firebirds will host No. 2 St. Xavier.
Lakota East ties Seton – Neither team could score in the Thunderhawks’ season opener Tuesday night. Lakota East will look for win No. 1 when it visits Ross this Thursday at 7 p.m. The team will have its home opener this Saturday at noon against No. 4 Milford.
Turpin shuts down Firebirds – No. 8 Lakota West lost its season opener Tuesday in a road match at No. 6 Turpin, by the score of 2-0. Matches with Loveland on Thursday and at Kings on Saturday will precede a home matchup with No. 1 Ursuline next Tuesday, Aug. 28 (WestChesterBuzz.com will cover that game). All matches are scheduled for 7 p.m.
Lakota tennis teams prevail - Both the Lakota East and Lakota West high school tennis team defeated Greater Miami Conference opponents on Tuesday. Lakota East swept Princeton by the score of 5-0, while Lakota West defeated Colerain 4-1.
Wednesday sporting events – Lakota West and Lakota East varsity tennis teams are scheduled to be in action Wednesday afternoon. Lakota West will host Ursuline and Lakota East will host Centerville. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. Meanwhile, the boys’ golf teams at Lakota West and Lakota East will also be in action Wednesday. Lakota West will face Hamilton at Twin Run at 10 a.m., while Lakota East will compete in the St. Xavier Invitational. On the girls’ side, Lakota East will face Middletown at Wetherington Country Club at 3:15 p.m.
