Above you will find the live feed from Fox Sports Ohio. The game starts at 7 p.m. The pre-game starts at 6:30 p.m.

WestChesterBuzz.com will be posting live stats and updates from Lakota West High School in the second half.

After the game, keep an eye out for a game story and a photo gallery from tonight’s matchup on the Buzz.

If you are making it to the game, look out for WestChesterBuzz.com t-shirts and mini footballs. The Lakota West cheerleaders will be throwing those items out to the Firebird fans.

On another note, the stats turned into the Greater Miami Conference website are wrong. Lakota West junior running back Marcus Davis is not getting the credit he deserves in the team’s previous box scores. So far this season, this just in from Lakota West Sports Information Director Todd Hummer, Davis has rushed for 153 yards and two touchdowns on 53 carries. Also, junior fullback Christian Estes has 57 yards on 13 carries this season and sophomore Alfred Ramsby has 116 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries.

Fairmont at Lakota West

The Lakota West football program (1-2) will be showcased live on Fox Sports Ohio this Thursday, Sept. 16, when it faces Middletown (3-0) at 7:00 p.m. The game will be played at Lakota West High School. It will be the first game against a Greater Miami Conference (GMC) opponent for both teams this season.

“It is big for everybody,” Lakota West head coach Larry Cox said. “They are very good and we will probably be a heavy underdog, but at the same time that is why you put the uniform on and play.”

Middletown has been playing well this season, defeating its three previous opponents in 2010 by a combined score of 121 to 21.

Offensively, the Middies are led by sophomore quarterback Jalin Marshall. In Middletown’s three contests in 2010, Marshall has thrown for 217 yards and rushed for 391 yards. He has totaled nine touchdowns.

Marshall’s top target this season has been junior wide receiver Zach Edwards, who has 140 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 receptions (46.7 yards per catch).

Middletown also has featured three capable running backs this season in sophomore William Peters (146 yards and 1 TD on 27 carries), senior Wayne Gregory (149 yards and 2 TDs on 25 carries) and junior Shaitan Wright (155 yards and 4 TDs on 23 carries).

While the Middletown offense has been impressive (averaging 358 yards per game), the defense has limited opponents to 156 yards per game.

Senior linebacker Kyle Schwarber (1 sack, 2 forced fumbles and 3 fumble recoveries in 2010) and junior defensive back Cody Quinn (2 interceptions in 2010), who were both named to the All-GMC Second Team in 2009, lead the Middletown defense.

Meanwhile, Lakota West struggled offensively in its first two games, losing 28-6 to LaSalle and 27-7 at Lancaster. The Firebirds offense averaged only 167 of total offense per game and the defense allowed an average of 350 yards per game during those first two weeks.

However, last Friday, Lakota West’s offensive totaled 406 yards in a 37-7 victory against Fairmont. Defensively, Lakota West limited the Fairmont Firebirds to 145 yards of total offense and forced three turnovers. (more…)

The Lakota East football program (1-1) will be showcased live on Fox Sports Ohio this Thursday, Sept. 9, when it faces LaSalle (2-0) at 7:05 p.m.

“It is a great opportunity to put our kids on a stage like that,” Lakota East Athletic Director Richard Bryant said. “We are the only game in town and we will be able to showcase all of the great things happening at Lakota East High School.”

Off the field, the event will be one of the school’s “Hawks for the Cure” athletic events that will benefit the Susan G. Koman for the Cure organization and its fight against breast cancer.

The event will include t-shirts for sale, raffles, split the pot chances, pink ribbons and wristbands and the opportunity to purchase memory/support balls that will be displayed at the entrance of the high school.

On the field, the Thunderhawks will return home after securing their first win of the season, a 24-21 decision over Glen Este. The win marked the program’s first under head coach Rick Haynes.

Meanwhile, the Thunderhawks’ opponent, the LaSalle Lancers have been impressive so far this season. LaSalle is currently 2-0 with wins against Lakota West (28-6) and Covington Catholic (50-7).

Next week, Lakota West will be featured on Fox Sports Ohio’s Thursday night, Sept. 16, telecast when it faces Middletown at 7:05 p.m.

2010 Lakota West football preview

Posted by akiefaber August 24th, 2010, 2:00 pm Post a Comment

Lakota West will kickoff its season against LaSalle High School in the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown at Nippert Stadium, home of the University of Cincinnati Bearcats, at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28.

Last season, Lakota West and head coach Larry Cox finished the season with a 9-2 overall record and a 7-0 record against Greater Miami Conference (GMC) opponents. The Firebirds didn’t play the other top two GMC finishers, Middletown (10-2 overall, 6-1 in GMC) and Colerain (8-2, 7-0 in GMC), last season.

The strength of the 2010 team will be on the line of scrimmage with the return of several linemen including senior Ryan Kelly, who committed to Alabama this summer. Kelly also received offers from Tennessee, Florida, Michigan, Florida State, Cincinnati and others.

It will be interesting to see who starts at quarterback for the Firebirds this season. Senior QB Ben Gooch (6 foot, 175 pounds) missed most of ’09 due to injury, while sophomores Jordan Darling (6-foot-4, 230 pounds) and Dustin Parker (6-foot-2, 200 pounds) are also strong candidates for the position. Darling transferred into Lakota West from Missouri.

This fall, Lakota West will open conference play against Middletown at home Sept. 16 at 7:30 p.m. and then will play at Colerain Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m. The Middletown game is on a Thursday night and will be televised on Fox Sports Ohio.

The 2010 Lakota West Football Schedule:

Aug. 28 vs. LaSalle (at Nippert) at 11 a.m.
Sept. 3 at Lancaster at 7:30 p.m.
Sept. 10 vs. Fairmont at 7:30 p.m.
Sept. 16 vs. Middletown at 7:30 p.m.
Sept. 24 at Colerain at 7:30 p.m.
Oct. 1 at Hamilton at 7:30 p.m.
Oct. 8 vs. Sycamore at 7:30 p.m.
Oct. 15 at Mason at 7:30 p.m.
Oct. 22 vs. Fairfield at 7:30 p.m.
Oct. 29 vs. Lakota East at 7:30 p.m.

Lakota West football to be shown live on TV and online

Posted by akiefaber July 16th, 2010, 9:00 am Post a Comment
The Lakota West Firebirds will kickoff conference play on Fox Sports Ohio this season Sept. 16 at home against Middletown High School. The school’s home football games will also be shown live throughout the 2010 season on the official Lakota West Athletic website.

Last season, the Firebirds finished with a 9-2 overall record and a 7-0 record against Greater Miami Conference (GMC) opponents. Middletown had a 10-2 overall record and a 6-1 record within the GMC. Both schools made the postseason and each saw their season end against Anderson. Lakota West and Middletown did not face each other in 2009.

The Firebirds will also have their regular season home games streamed live on the Internet. The school will use the video and audio feed provided by West Chester Community Television. The decision to stream away games will be decided on a game-by-game basis. Games will also be shown on West Chester Community Television at a later date.

Lakota West students will be heavily involved in the online production. Students will create commercials, introductions, special features (interviews with players, homecoming special, current news), highlight packages from previous weeks, and manage the hosts and hardware involved in the production.

Lakota West Sports Information Director and Web Design Instructor Todd Hummer sees the online production to be a valuable teaching tool for his students.

“Any project that you have that gives them real world experience is great for the classroom,” Hummer said. “The kids take a lot of pride, knowing that their product is going out to the community.”
