Where in West Chester to watch the NCAA Tournament

Posted by akiefaber March 22nd, 2012, 9:34 am Post a Comment

There a few West Chester sports bars featuring unique specials throughout March Madness. In no particular order here are the top local places to keep up with the NCAA Tournament.

Local sports bars should get a boost in business when the Cincinnati Bearcats take on the Ohio State Buckeyes in the NCAA Tournament Thursday at 9:45 p.m. In the photo, senior Yancy Gates dunks on Providence's Brice Kofane in a game this past February. Photo taken by Joseph Fuqua II.

Willie’s Sports Café: There is not a seat in the entire restaurant that doesn’t have a television nearby at Willie’s Sports Café, 8188 Princeton-Glendale Road. During the NCAA Tournament, the staff at Willie’s will spin a wheel for specials at the start of every game and every half. Once the wheel lands on a special, which includes $1 16 oz. domestic drafts and 30-cent wings, it will be available until the wheel is spun again. On the next two Sundays, Willie’s will also give out raffle tickets to customers who spend at least $15. The grand prize of the raffle is a new Kindle Fire.

Dingle House Irish Pub Last weekend, Dingle House also had to deal with St. Patrick’s Day. This weekend, the attention will be on the Irish pub’s 17 plasma televisions. The Dingle House, 9102 Towne Centre Drive, will have food and drink specials while the tournament takes place, according to its website. The pub features 24 import and domestic craft beers.

Win Place or Show: Win Place or Show, 9933 Cincinnati-Columbus Rd., will also be offering specials during March Madness. On Thursday, the bar will have $1 select draft beers from 9 p.m. to close and .50 cent boneless wings. More importantly, Win Place or Show has 40 flat screen televisions.

Buffalo Wild Wings: This sports bar chain will not be offering any special deals, but remains a community favorite to watch a game. Equipped with 60 televisions and 24 beers on draft, Buffalo Wild Wings, should draw a good crowd throughout March Madness. Buffalo Wild Wings is located right off Union Centre Boulevard by I-75.

Other local bars that will have a good atmosphere when it comes watching a basketball game include Champps Americana (9424 Civic Center Blvd. at The Streets of West Chester), Eli’s Sports Bar & Grill (intersection of Princeton Road and SR 747) and The Back Porch Saloon (9626 Princeton-Glendale Road).

The menu includes all you can eat pancakes, bacon donated by Eli’s, hot chocolate, juice and coffee.

Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children, which includes a $2 donation for every adult ticket and $1 from every child’s ticket, to the Liberty Township campus of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

Posted by akiefaber March 9th, 2011, 2:50 pm Post a Comment

Eli's Sports Bar & Grill

Eli’s Sports Bar and Grill, which currently has locations in Ross and Mason, is attempting to have a “soft” opening of its new Liberty Township restaurant tonight between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Then starting tomorrow, the bar and grill will be open from 11 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. seven days a week.

The restaurant just had its furniture delivered this afternoon and is currently putting the finishing touches for the opening tonight, which will last until 2:30 a.m.

“We definitely wanted to get open as soon as possible for all the basketball fans,” said Dave Westerbeck, who owns the three Eli’s Bar and Grills with his two brothers, Steve and Mike.

The new restaurant features a total of 11 42-inch flat-screen televisions and four eight-foot projection screens that surround its customers – making it an ideal place to watch numerous games at once.

The Liberty Township location, which is located at the intersection of Princeton Road and SR 747, also has a full bar that seats 22, Golden Tee and darts. The full bar will also have 11 different beers and margaritas on tap.

“I think people are going to be blown away because there is nothing here that will remind them of the old place,” Westerbeck said. “Anyone that has been here before is not going to recognize it. There is not a piece of Beef ‘O’ Brady’s or Jerzey’s left.”

Eli’s Sports Bar and Grill is described as “fast casual.” Customers order their food at the counter and have it served to them when it is ready. The bar is also known for its 14 different types of wing sauces.

Eli’s Sports Bar and Grill to open new location in Liberty Township in time for March Madness

Posted by akiefaber December 30th, 2010, 4:12 pm Post a Comment

Eli's sports bar

Eli’s Sports Bar and Grill, which currently has locations in Ross and Mason, will open a new restaurant in Liberty Township at the Princeton Landings plaza in late February or in early March. The new sports bar will be located in the former location of Jerzey’s Sports Grille.

The family-friendly sports bar is family owned by three brothers Steve, Dave and Mike Westerbeck. Currently, Steve oversees the Mason location, while Dave and Mike look after the Ross location. Once the Liberty Township restaurant opens, however, each brother will run their own sports bar.

“We will have to get another brother if we want to do more,” said Dave Westerbeck, who will oversee the Liberty Township restaurant.

Eli’s Sports Bar and Grill is described as “fast casual.” Customers order their food at the counter and have it served to them when it is ready.

The bar is already known for its 14 types of wing sauces and having sporting events on its numerous televisions.

According to Dave, the new location will have at least three large projection screens and 10-to-12 42-inch flat-screen televisions.

The Liberty Township location will also have eight beers on tap, a full bar, Golden Tee, dart leagues and feature a DJ and Karaoke on certain nights.

Steve Westerbeck, who is the oldest, worked in the restaurant industry in Wyoming and Colorado before starting Crossroads Sports Bar and Grill in Mason eight years ago. In 2006, he bought out his partner and named the bar Eli’s after his brother Mike’s son.

At the time, Eli was the only nephew. Now there are a combined seven kids in the Westerbeck clan.

“My seven year old asked if we could name the next one after him,” Dave said of his son Chance. “But I had to tell him that we had to keep the name.”
