Lakota East High School recently announced the senior class homecoming court. The homecoming football game will be against Mason, Sept. 30 at 7:30 p.m. Prior to the game, the school will have a special presentation for the homecoming court and will announce the king and queen at 7 p.m.

The homecoming dance will take place Oct. 1 in Lakota East High School’s gymnasium from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Lakota East students, grades 10-12 are invited to attend. If students want to bring a guest from a different school, a guest form must be completed and presented when purchasing tickets.

Lakota East and Lakota West high schools recently named their athletes of the week. Lakota East honored Wesley Meyer and Drew Souders, while Lakota West recognized Nathan Haynes and Ashley Sharp.

Wesley Meyer (photo) is a senior on the Lakota East boys’ volleyball squad. Overall, Meyer has played a big role on his team, which is 11-3 overall and 4-0 within the Greater Miami Conference. This past Tuesday, Meyer totaled 30 kills in a 29-27, 25-16, 25-18, 25-16 win against Fairfield. Last spring, Meyer was named to the All-GMC First Team.

Drew Souders is a junior on the Lakota East boys’ tennis team. Souders has helped the Thunderhawks get off to a strong start. Through Friday, April 15, Lakota East has an 8-1 overall record and a 7-1 mark within the GMC. So far this season, Souders is 1-0 at No. 2 singles and 3-1 at No. 3 singles. This is his first year on the varsity team.

Nathan Haynes is a junior member of the Lakota West track team. Last week, he finished second in the 800-meter run at the 31-team Cincinnati Coaches Classic. Haynes also finished first in the 800-meter run at this Thursday’s Mt. Healthy Owls Classic. Furthermore, Haynes was on the 3200-meter relay team, which finished second at the Coaches Classic.

Ashley Sharp is a freshman pitcher on the Lakota West softball team. Last week, Sharp filled in for the injured Alex Caudill as the team’s starting pitcher. Sharp responded by winning three straight games – 4-3 win at Oak Hills on April 5, 11-1 win vs. Hamilton on April 6, and a 8-1 win vs. Princeton April 8. During that span, Sharp struck out 31 batters in 18 innings.

On a rainy afternoon, most of the varsity high school clubs had their matches rescheduled. The Lakota East boys’ tennis team was still able to play its match against Princeton at the Queen City Racquet Club.

The Thunderhawks defeated Princeton by the score of 3-2 yesterday, April 11, afternoon. Lakota East’s three singles players (junior Zach Mueck, senior Freddie Abunku and junior Drew Souders) won each of their matches, while the both of the Thunderhawks’ doubles tandems lost both of their matches.

Both the Lakota West and Lakota East baseball programs were scheduled to host baseball games yesterday, however both games have been rained out and have been rescheduled for today.

Here is what the schedule is looking like for today:

Lakota West – Boys’ tennis – vs. Sycamore at 4 p.m.
Lakota East – Track – at Colerain Inv. at 4 p.m.
Lakota West – Baseball – vs. Fairfield at 4:30 p.m.
Lakota East – Softball – at Hamilton at 4:30 p.m.
Lakota East – Baseball – vs. Middletown at 5 p.m.
Lakota East– Boys’ Volleyball – vs. Fairfield at 7 p.m.
Lakota West– Boys’ Volleyball – vs. Princeton at 7 p.m.
Lakota West – Girls’ Lacrosse – vs. Sycamore at 7 p.m.
Lakota East – Boys’ Lacrosse – vs. Elder at 7:30 p.m.
