Each month, MetroParks of Butler County offers Discovery Kids programs for children ages 3-to-5 and their adult companions. On Thursday, the program was called “Holiday Happenings.”

Cincinnati Enquirer photographer Tony Jones attended the winter holiday themed event.

Last month, the program “Pilgrims and Turkeys” allowed children to make pilgrim hats out of paper and listen to stories of pilgrims and of the first Thanksgiving.

In September, the program “Pioneer Living” allowed children to explore the natural world through stories, crafts and activities.

Wyandot first graders reenact the First Thanksgiving

Posted by akiefaber November 22nd, 2011, 6:15 pm Post a Comment

Wyandot Early Childhood School students reenacted the First Thanksgiving during a special lunch assembly Tuesday. Cincinnati Enquirer photographer Tony Jones was there to capture the event.

For the event, first grade teacher Julie Engelbert had her students learn about Native American culture, while students in Susan Snyer’s first grade class studied Pilgrim culture.

The two classes came together Tuesday to share what each had learned and to have their own First Thanksgiving with food brought in by parents and teachers.

Last week, MetroParks of Butler County offered a Thanksgiving-themed Discovery Kids program for children ages 3-to-5 at Voice of America Park in West Chester. During the program, “Pilgrims and Turkeys,” children made pilgrim hats out of paper and listened to stories about pilgrims and about the First Thanksgiving.

MetroParks offers a different Discovery Kids program each month.
