A debate between two of the candidates running against John Boehner in the May 6 primary for the Eighth Congressional District will take place Saturday in Eaton.
The Concerned Citizens of Ohio are hosting a forum and informal straw poll from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at the Gathering Place, 501 Nation Ave., in Eaton.
The focus will be on elected officials’ accountability, promoting and supporting conservative candidates for office and issues important to residents and businesses.
Boehner is being challenged in the primary by Republicans Matthew Ashworth, and Eric Gurr, of Liberty Township; and J.D. Winteregg, of Troy.
Whoever is selected in the primary will face James Condit Jr, from the Constitution Party; and either Democrat Matthew Guyette or Tom Poetter, in the Nov. 4 election.
Both Gurr and Winteregg will be at the event, said Richard Knodel Jr., the forum moderator. Ashworth is not able to attend.
“It’s a preliminary ‘survival of the fittest,’” Knodel said.
The program is being paid for by The Tea Party Leadership Fund Political Action Committee.
