West Chester Police to help residents avoid identity theft

The West Chester Police Department will offer a free shredding and identity theft information event this Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

West Chester Police will have the event at The West Chester Activity Center, which is located at 7900 Cox Road. Police will accept personal paperwork for shredding and will answer any questions related to identity theft.

No registration is required. Interested community members can arrive anytime between 9 a.m. and noon.

The West Chester Police Department offers programs on a variety of topics throughout the year. For more information, visit westchesteroh.org.

Digital photography class starts Thursday at library

The West Chester Library will be hosting a two-part digital photography class that is designed to help novice digital photographers hone their skills. The program, “Basics to Better Pictures,” begins Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

That first class will outline the basic operation of a digital camera and introduce participants to three steps that will improve pictures immediately. The second class, which will place from 7 to 9 p.m. March 1, will cover composition and the basics of using light in photography.

Registration is required for these classes. For more information or to register, call the West Chester Library at 513-777-3131. Both classes will meet in Community Room A/B of the West Chester Library, located at 9363 Centre Pointe Drive in West Chester.

W. C. Police to have events on back-to-back Saturdays

The West Chester Police Department will offer a free self-defense class for women this Saturday, Oct. 22, and will staff a medication drop-off location next Saturday, Oct. 29.

The self-defense class, which is designed for women, will take place from 10 a.m. until noon. According to a press release from the township, the class is designed to encourage women to be prepared and confident when faced with a potentially dangerous confrontation.

Classes are for women age 16 and older and are taught by West Chester Police Officer Michael Bruce. The class is offered at the police department on Beckett Road. Participants should dress comfortably in order to participate fully in the class.

To register for the free class, call 513-759-7254.

Meanwhile, the West Chester Police Department will staff a drop-off location for the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day Oct. 29. The medication disposal drop-off location will be at the Cornerstone United Methodist Church, which is located 7600 Princeton-Glendale Road just north of Tylersville Road.

Residents can drop off unwanted and unused prescription drugs between the hours of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. No syringes or lancets will be accepted at this drop-off nor over-the-counter or syrup or liquid medications.

Sushi Monk became West Chester’s newest sushi restaurant when it opened earlier this summer at 8268 Princeton-Glendale Road. The chef, Calvin Tam, has made sushi at many Japanese restaurants around town, according the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Polly Campbell. He has also taught popular sushi-making classes at Jungle Jim’s Cooking School.

Sushi Monk Next Sunday, Aug. 28, Tam (right) will hold a sushi class from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at his new restaurant. Registration is due by this Thursday Aug. 25.

Recently, Cincinnati Enquirer photographer Tony Jones visited the restaurant to take pictures for Metromix.com.

The restaurant is small, seating around 48 people and 20 people outside.

Sushi Monk serves sushi, ramen, and some other Japanese snacks such as potstickers, short ribs and fish balls.

The restaurant is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday from 1 p.m. to 12 a.m. (summer hours) and Sunday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The West Chester Police Department announced this week that it will offer a free self-defense class this Wednesday, Aug. 24 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.. According to a release, the class is designed to encourage individuals to be prepared and confident when faced with a potentially dangerous confrontation.

The class is for ages 16 and older and is taught by officer Michael Bruce.

The class is offered at the police department on Beckett Road. Participants should dress comfortably in order to participate fully in the class.

The police department offers free self-defense classes throughout the year.

The classes are free, but registration is recommended. To register, call 759-7254.

West Chester Police will have the event at The West Chester Activity Center, which is located at 7900 Cox Road. Police will accept personal paperwork for shredding and will answer any questions related to identity theft.

No registration is required; just arrive sometime between 9 a.m. and noon.

According the event’s press release, West Chester University is a series of informative programs offered to encourage better communication between West Chester Township government and the residents and businesses of the community.

West Chester Fire offers free CPR class May 21

Free cardiopulmonary resuscitation training will be offered to West Chester Township residents May 21.

The three-hour class begins at 9 a.m. and will be held at the West Chester Hospital, 7700 University Dr., off Cox Road. Go to the lower level conference room A.

The American Heart Association’s Family and Friends CPR class is being offered at no cost through a partnership between the hospital and the township’s fire department.

Those completing the class will not earn a certification and it is not recommended for anyone seeking certification for work purposes.
