Several area organizations will hold memorial events Wednesday to commemorate the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Chesterwood Village will hold a flag-raising ceremony at 10 a.m. along Main Street at retirement community, 8073 Tylersville Road.
West Chester Township Trustee Catherine Stoker will speak and Bill Bross, of St. Susanna Church, will lead a prayer.
The township’s fire department and police honor guard will also take part in the ceremony. Refreshments follow. A 9/11 display will be featured and free flags and pins will be available.
The Butler County Fire Chief’s Association will hold a memorial remembrance of those who died in the terrorist attacks as well as locals who’ve died in the line of duty at the Fallen Firefighter’s Memorial on Monument Ave. in Hamilton.
Area safety services personnel will begin gathering at 5:45 p.m., followed by the program at 6:30 p.m.
The Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati will hold a National Day of Service and Remembrance.
Robert Behlen of the U.S. Attorney’s Office and representatives of the West Chester Police and Fire departments will speak at a breakfast program, set for 7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. at 8092 Plantation Drive. The event includes an interfaith prayer service.
Attendees are asked to bring non-perishable food items and new or gently work winter clothing to benefit those in need.
