Alicia's Lungs

Alicia’s Lungs, a charity raising funds for Lakota graduate Alicia Lang, who has cystic fibrosis and needs to have a double-lung transplant, will be having a aluminum can drive this Saturday, Oct. 1, from 8 a.m. to noon at Lakota West High School.

The charity group is asking community members to collect and drop off their aluminum cans in the front southwest corner of the high school’s parking lot. The drop-off area is near the corner of Union Centre Blvd. and West Chester Road.

Lang is currently listed for a double-lung transplant at Loyola in Chicago and at the Cleveland Clinic. The transplant will be scheduled when a lung becomes available.

The family is anticipating around $350,000 in bills that will not be covered by their insurance, which covers 80 percent of the cost.

For more about Alicia’s story, visit the Facebook page or WestChesterBuzz.com’s story entitled “Lakota West grad hoping for new lungs.”

People who want to donate, but cannot make to the event, can make their personal pledge to the charity by going to donate page of AliciasLungs.com.

RASKALS seeks volunteers for fall chores

Posted by akiefaber September 21st, 2011, 9:05 am Post a Comment

RASKALS

A local community service program called Random Acts of Simple Kindness Affecting Local Seniors (RASKALS) is looking for volunteers to help senior citizens with outdoor chores this fall.

The West Chester Township program, which is offered twice each year, helps local seniors with window washing, raking, trimming shrubs, painting fences, spreading mulch, planting flowers and other chores.

The program helps seniors remain more self sufficient in their homes and has helped developed some meaningful friendships between the volunteers and their senior citizen clients.

Each RASKALS effort benefits more than 100 local seniors thanks to hundreds of volunteers from local organizations, churches and schools.

The fall RASKALS program is Nov. 12.

To register as a volunteer, call Laura Groff at 513-759-7312, or visit www.westchesteroh.org.
