A note threatening a shooting at a Lakota school on Monday has prompted officials to increase security and notify parents, school officials said Friday.
The note, which was discovered late Tuesday afternoon in a girls’ bathroom of Lakota East Freshmen School in Butler County’s Liberty Township, warned students to “wear red on Monday (Nov. 4) if you don’t want to get shot.”
Lakota officials said the Butler County Sheriff’s department is investigating and security has been bolstered at the 742-student school at 7630 Bethany Road. Parents received a letter from school officials on Wednesday.
“We’re telling them what we found and what we are doing to beef up security,” said Randy Oppenheimer, spokesman for Lakota School.
Officials are speculating that since Monday was originally an off day for Lakota students that was later changed, a disgruntled student may have been trying to get out of school that day.
