Summer is almost is over, which means the first day of school is just around the corner. For students in grades 1 through 12 in the Lakota Local Schools district, that first day is Thursday, Aug. 22. That’s less than two weeks away.
Meanwhile, kindergarten students (first day is Aug. 27) won’t start until the following week. However, the first phase-in day for kindergarten students will take place Tuesday, Aug. 20. First day for preschool students is Sept. 3.
To make sure each student is ready for the start of the school year, Lakota recently posted 2013-2014 back-to-school information on its website.
It is worth noting that the school district decided to bring back busing for all kindergarten and first grade students this school year. After moving to state minimum transportation two years ago, the school district only provided busing to students in those grades if they lived more than two miles away from the school itself.
Chris Passarge, the school district’s chief operations officer, said that the service can be provided at no additional cost. The district still doesn’t provide busing to those who are in grades 2-8 and live within two miles of their school. It also doesn’t provide transportation to high school students.
New students can enroll at www.lakotaonline.com/enroll. The last day to enroll for a guaranteed first day start is Aug. 15.
