West Chester businesses in running for Best of the North awards

More than a dozen West Chester businesses will compete this evening for Cincy Magazine’s Best of the North awards.

Hundreds of readers nominated businesses in the magazine’s inaugural contest in categories ranging from shopping to dining to healthy living. See the list of entrants at the magazine’s website.

Readers will have the chance to vote to vote this evening at a special event hosted at The Manor House, 7440 Mason-Montgomery Road, Mason.

Event hours are 5:30-8:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 at the door and include an evening of music, unlimited food and two drink tickets. All attendees will receive a ballot to vote for their favorite business in each category.

Lakota West’s ‘Sweeney Todd’ wins multiple Cappies

According to Cincinnati.com, Lakota West High School’s production of the musical “Sweeney Todd” won multiple 2011 Cappies Awards.

Lakota West SweeneyToddThe Cappies, “Critics and Awards Program,” is a program through which high school theater and journalism students are trained as critics, attend shows at other schools, write reviews, and publish those reviews in local newspapers like The Washington Post, Cincinnati Enquirer, Dallas Morning News, Kansas City Star and The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Winners from the Greater Cincinnati area were announced this past Saturday, May 21, at a gala at the Aronoff Center.

The “Sweeney Todd” production, which was performed in early April, won awards for makeup, ensemble in a musical, supporting actress in a musical and supporting actor in a musical.

Emily George and Taylor McBee won for makeup; Mitra Jouhari won for supporting actress; and Max Jansen won for supporting actor.

Lakota East Marching Thunderhawks honored

Fairfield at Lakota East - Homecoming

Lakota East Marching Thunderhawks participated in the “Parade of Bands” competition at Ottawa Glandorf Sept. 18. In addition to receiving a Superior Rating, the band brought home ten trophies.

In both Class A/AA as well as overall awards, the Marching Thunderhawks won Best Music, Best Marching, Best General Effect and Best Field Commander. They also received 1st Place in their class and Grand Champion.

The Marching Thunderhawks also performed well at the 43rd annual Miami Trace Marching Band Invitational this past weekend, Oct. 2. In addition to a Superior (1) rating, they brought home six trophies.

The band received Outstanding Percussion and 1st Place in Class AA. They also received overall awards in Outstanding Visual, Outstanding Music, Outstanding General Effect and Grand Champion.
