Smokin’ Open raises money for local funds

The First Annual WCFD Smokin’ Open golf outing took place this fall and raised money for local funds committed to fire safety education and similar efforts. Proceeds from the event supported the Angel Fund and the 3 Little Halos Fund, which each received a check for $4,000.00 from the outing. Checks were recently presented at fire headquarters in West Chester. Photo provided.

In late September, the West Chester Fire Department hosted its first annual Smokin’ Open at Beckett Ridge Country Club to benefit the 3 little Halos Fund and The Angel Fund.

With money raised from that event, the fire department recently cut two checks – each worth $4,000 – to both local funds.

The 3 little Halos fund has been established to support organizations and programs dedicated to promote fire safety, prevention and awareness, as well as other household safety practices.

This fund has been created in memory of Aubrey, Alex and Braden Butler, who passed away in November of 2007 as a result of a fire in their West Chester home. The children’s legacy will continue by assisting organizations that work to ensure a safe environment for children and their families.

Currently, 3 little Halos is raising funds to build a Safety Town. The town is a small scale city for young children, which is designed to teach all aspects of traffic safety, as well as, fire, water, weather and many other safety concerns for children.

Meanwhile, the Angel Fund provides one-time emergency assistance to people who live or work in West Chester or Liberty Township whose need cannot be addressed by any other charitable, governmental, religious or social services agency or organization.

A person in need cannot come directly to the Community Foundation of West Chester/Liberty and request for aid from the Angel Fund. Instead, an “Angel” must request help for a neighbor, friend, associate or family member whom they suspect is having difficulties making ends meet.
