John Kiesewetter reports:
All kinds of “American Idol” news today, including a report that one area woman will make the top 31 (expanded from the top 24 in past years). For before I get to the spoilers, here is info for all fans:
LIVE STREAM SPECIAL TUESDAY: A Q&A with host Ryan Seacrest and judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick, Jr. will be streamed live at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at www.americanidol.com and www.livestream.com. The Q&A will come from Originating from Royce Hall at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). The Q&A starts after a special screening of the premeire uplinked via satellite to parties in New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, Boston, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Houston, Detroit, Phoenix, Seattle, Tampa, Minneapolis, Denver, Orlando, Sacramento, St. Louis, Charlotte and Nashville. But not Cincinnati.
SEASON 13 PREMIERES WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY: Airs 8-10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. Auditions fill first three weeks. According to the msjbigblog, here’s the format after that:
- Feb. 5-18: Hollywood Rounds. Ends with top 50 cut to 31 this year in three age groups: Juniors (17 & under), Intermediates (18-21) and seniors (22+).
- Feb. 19-27: Semifinals, with Top 16 on live results Feb. 27.
- March 5-6: Top 12 announced on live show March 6.
- May 21: Live finale in New York City, instead of LA.
NOW THE SPOILER ALERT: Brandy Neelly, daughter of Channel 5 news director Mike Neelly and Cheryl Case Neelly of Liberty Township, makes it to the top 31, according to the mjsbigblog here.
Brandy made it to the Hollywood round last year, and “Idol” featured her in a video showing her at home in Louisville with her parents. (She was adopted by her aunt.) The family moved to Liberty Township last year, after the school year. (Mike Neelly was a Louisville TV news director for 12 years before coming to sister Hearst station WLWT-TV in November 2012).
Brandy impressed judges at the Chicago auditions last season with her rendition of Hank Williams’ “Your Cheatin’ Heart.” They unanimously gave her a ticket to the Hollywood Round. Sounds like she goes further this year with two new judges.
I don’t know what city she auditioned in, or when her audition will air. “Idol” starts this week with Boston (Wednesday) and Austin (Thursday). Detroit airs Wednesday Jan. 22.
Are you anxious to see the new “American Idol” season 13? If you see any other local contestants on “Idol,” let me know!
