West grad Alexis Rogers named MAC Player of the Week

Former Lakota West basketball star Alexis Rogers, who is a redshirt sophomore on the Bowling Green State University girls’ basketball team, was named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week Monday. It was the second time this season that Rogers earned the honor.

Alexis Rogers Rogers led the team in scoring and rounding last week, as Bowling Green defeated Ohio and Buffalo. The wins helped the Falcons improve its conference record to a perfect 4-0.

In the 61-49 win against Ohio, Rogers registered her third straight double-double when she scored 15 points and pulled down a game high 11 rebounds. Against Buffalo, Rogers led the Falcons with a game high 19 points. She also had 7 rebounds in 21 minutes of play.

In her first season at BGSU, after transferring from Duke University, Rogers is averaging 11.3 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.

Her team is currently 14-3 on the year and has won 7 straight games.

Rogers will be near West Chester Thursday when Bowling Green faces Miami University (14-3 overall, 4-0 in the MAC) at 7 p.m. at Millett Hall in Oxford in a battle for first place in the East Division of the MAC.

Former Lakota West basketball star Alexis Rogers, who is a redshirt sophomore on the Bowling Green State University girls’ basketball team, was recently named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week.

Alexis Rogers Rogers averaged 14.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, helping Bowling Green to a 3-0 record last week. In a game against Youngstown State last Tuesday, Rogers totaled career highs in points with 23 and in rebounds with 11.

In her first season at BGSU, after transferring from Duke University, Rogers is averaging 9.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.

Her team is currently 7-2 on the year and has won six straight games.

Rogers and the Falcons will be back in action at Creighton at 2:05 p.m. Sunday.

Bowling Green officially lands Alexis Rogers

Bowling Green State University women’s basketball coach Curt Miller has announced the addition of Alexis Rogers to the program. Rogers, a transfer from Duke University and a former Lakota West standout, will sit out the 2010-11 season per NCAA regulations, and will retain three seasons of eligibility.

“Alexis will be a great addition to our BGSU family,” said Miller. “After learning of her desire to move back closer to home, I developed a connection with Alexis quickly and felt our program would be an outstanding fit for her.

“I am excited to work with Alexis, as she is a talented and versatile player capable of playing as many as three positions for the Falcons.”’

Rogers, a 6-1 wing/forward, is a native of West Chester, Ohio. She played in 24 games off the bench as a freshman at Duke in 2009-10, helping the Blue Devils to a 30-6 overall record and a 12-2 Atlantic Coast Conference mark. Duke won the ACC championship and advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Championships.

Rogers averaged 1.5 points and 1.6 rebounds per game, playing 5.2 minutes per contest for the Blue Devils. She had a pair of double-digit scoring games, with a career-high 14 points in her collegiate debut vs. Houston Baptist and an 11-point outing in just eight minutes of action vs. North Carolina Central. She had season-high totals of seven rebounds in the HBU game and four steals vs. N.C. Central. (more…)

Alexis Rogers to transfer to BGSU

Former Lakota West High School basketball standout Alexis Rogers will transfer to Bowling Green State University, according to the Dayton Daily News.

Rogers leaves Duke University after one season. Duke finished the 2009-2010 season ranked as the No. 6 team in the nation in both the Associated Press Top 25 and ESPN/USA Today Coaches polls.

In her last two seasons at Lakota West, Rogers helped lead the Firebirds to a perfect 28-0 record within the Greater Miami Conference and a state runner-up finish in the 2007-2008 season. During those two years, Lakota West won 50 of its 55 games.

In the 2008-2009 season, Rogers averaged 15 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.

Last season, Rogers appeared in 24 games for Duke and averaged 5.2 minutes per game. During her limited play, she averaged 1.5 points and 1.6 rebounds per game.

The athletic department at Bowling Green State University is not expected to officially announce the transfer of Rogers until Wednesday at the earliest.
