Memorial Day weekend is typically the unofficial start of summer, but this year it will be a cool one.

You will need a sweater or jacket this morning. It’s clear and 51 degrees in downtown Cincinnati, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

You might see a light drizzle or shower. Most locations will slip into the 40s by daybreak.

Today will be mostly cloudy with gradual afternoon sun. The high temperature will struggle to reach the mid-60s by 5 p.m.

Tonight will be mostly clear – but cold with a low of 42.

Normally, our high temperature is 76 with lows in the mid-50s. We’re falling below normal due to a high pressure system bringing cooler air in from the north, said meteorologist Brian Coniglio.

Saturday and Sunday look near picture perfect: mostly sunny, highs in the upper 60s and low 70s, ideal for going on a long bike ride or strolling amid the booths at Taste of Cincinnati, sampling the city’s culinary fare.

Monday will be mostly cloudy but dry with a high of 73.

Overnight lows this weekend will remain brisk and in the upper 40s and low 50s.

Once the work week begins on Tuesday, we’ll be back to summertime heat.

Highs will be in the low 80s and reach the mid-80s by Wednesday.

Widespread showers and thunderstorms will strike today, with the worst expected mid-afternoon.

Winds could gust up to 58 mph with quarter-size hail anytime after 1 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Tornadoes cannot be ruled out, but the threat for them to develop is small, said meteorologist Scott Hickman.

It’s warm and muggy already this morning with 65 degrees at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. We’ll be in the mid-70s by lunchtime. The high temperature will peak near 80 at 5 p.m.

The chance for showers and thunderstorms will stick around through midnight. It will be mostly cloudy overnight with a low around 60.

More rain could fall Thursday, but it will feel considerably cooler as a cold front and high pressure system pushes in from the north. The high will only top out at 70.

As the holiday weekend starts Friday, the sun will re-emerge with a cool high of just 65 degrees. Friday night, the temperature will dip into the low 40s.

Conditions will remain mild for this time of year through early next week. Daytime highs will be in the low- to mid-70s with overnight lows in the 50s.

We’ll see a mix of sun and clouds with low chances for rain through Tuesday.

So much for spring.

Summer-like temperatures and humidity will sizzle Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky the first part of the week.

After a bit of fog this morning, our high temperature will skyrocket to near 90 degrees under a mostly sunny sky.

That’s just a few degrees shy of the record of 92 on this date, set in 1934, and almost 15 degrees above normal for this time of year, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Warm air from the south has thrown our region into heat typically seen in July and August, said meteorologist Andy Hatzos.

It’s already 70 degrees this morning at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. Typically, overnight lows hover around 55 at this point in May.

The hot and humid weather will last through Wednesday with highs in the upper 80s and overnight lows in the upper 60s.

There will be chances for showers and thunderstorms starting Tuesday morning through Thursday night. The probability for severe weather is low, according to the weather service.

We’ll see a bit of relief from the heat by Thursday. The mercury will slide back into the upper 70s during the daytime as a cold front and high pressure system moves in from the north, Hatzos said.

Overnight lows will fall into the 50s.

The upcoming Memorial Day weekend looks pleasant with plenty of sun and daytime highs in the low 70s.

The calendar says spring is here, but the overnight forecast calls for the region to experience some winter-like temperatures.

Scott Hickman, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Wilmington, said the Tri-state is under a frost advisory until Monday morning. Temperatures are expected to drop into the mid- to low-30s overnight, before rising into the upper 50s by midday.

“Anything that is sensitive to getting frozen should be covered up or brought inside,” Hickman said.

There is no precipitation in the forecast, so the low temperatures are not expected to cause any problems on area roadways.

After brush with 80s last week, temperature struggles to get into 60s

The work week is off to a soggy start with heavy rain, fog and mist across Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky this morning.

The rain will continue off and on throughout the day. There’s a 90 percent chance of rain before noon. Up to a half inch could fall, the National Weather Service in Wilmington reports.

It’s 51 degrees in downtown Cincinnati with a high temperature only expected to reach 60.

The chance for rain will fall to 30 percent by tonight. It will be cloudy with a low of 55.

Record rainfall was reported Sunday at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport: 1.96 inches. That shattered the old record of 1.67 inches for May 5, set in 1882, said meteorologist Ashley Novak.

It’s been a fairly wet spring so far with 9.07 inches of rain recorded since March 1. Normally, 8.65 inches has fallen by this point, so we are .42 inches above typical level, Novak said.

More rain – and thunderstorms – could develop Tuesday through Wednesday. It will be mostly cloudy both days with high sin the low-to-mid-70s.

Overnight lows will remain in the 50s.

The sun should return by Thursday as the mercury climbs slightly into the mid-70s.

Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky will enjoy one more pleasant spring day today before cooler temps and possibly rain showers move in for the weekend.

It should be partly sunny with a high of 78 degrees by 5 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

More clouds will roll in tonight, but it should stay dry. The overnight low will fall to 55.

There’s a 20 percent chance for showers after 3 p.m. Saturday. Otherwise, it will be mostly cloudy and cooler, with a high of 67 degrees.

That chance for rain will increase a bit to 30 percent after 7 p.m.

As thousands converge on downtown Cincinnati Sunday morning for the start of the Flying Pig Marathon, the mercury will be a cool 52.

We could see rain pop up during the race, but the better chance will be Sunday afternoon. If it does rain, accumulation will be minor – at less than a tenth of an inch.

The temperature will reach 63 by noon and top out around 67 at 5 p.m.

Looking ahead to next week, conditions will be dry with daytime highs in the low-to-mid-70s and overnight lows in the low 50s.

Lunchtime temperatures will be in the low 70s, and the mercury should hit 82 degrees around 5 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Normally this time of year, the high only gets to about 68 degrees.

It’s mostly clear so far this morning across Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. The temperature is 52 degrees at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.

Patchy fog could develop by 9 a.m., but it won’t anywhere as thick as the haze that covered downtown Cincinnati on Tuesday morning.

Temperatures will remain warmer-than-normal for this time of year and in the 70s through Friday with plenty of sun before a cold front arrives this weekend.

According to the seven-day forecast from the National Weather Service, it appears as though it will be a pleasant week in West Chester.

There is a slight chance of showers Monday, with a high of 69 and a low around 51. Then on Tuesday, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 79 and low around 55.

Wednesday and Thursday will be similar, with most sunny skies expected Wednesday and Thursday afternoons with highs in the uppers 70s and low 80s.

On Friday, it is expected to be partly sunny with a high near 72.

Lows each night will dip into the 50s.

It will be get a little cooler this weekend, with highs in the 60s. There will also be a chance of showers and thunderstorms. The chance of precipitation is 30 percent Friday night, 40 percent on Saturday and 30 percent on Sunday.

The following week also appears to be pleasant, according to AccuWeather.com. That forecast calls for highs ranging from 68 to 82 degrees, with mostly dry weather.

Temperatures will free fall with rain and possibly thunderstorms as a cold front pushes through today.

It’s 64 degrees this morning in downtown Cincinnati but by noon, the mercury will tumble to 44, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

The rain should end by 2 p.m. with about a half an inch accumulating. Tonight will be partly cloudy with a low around 35.

A frost advisory is in effect for the northern Cincinnati suburbs this morning.

Butler and Warren counties will see patchy frost and temperatures in the mid-30s until 9 a.m., according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

The rest of the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky region has mostly clear conditions and temperatures around 40 degrees.

Later, it will be mostly sunny with a high of 67 degrees.

Tonight will be partly cloudy with a low around 46.
