Ten Lakota West student athletes have signed national letters of intent to play college football or soccer this fall.
That brings the total to 25 after 15 athletes signed letters last fall.
Lakota East is set to have its athletes sign during Friday ceremonies.
The letters were signed during Wednesday ceremonies at the school. The athletes, their school and career highlights are:
*Malik Groove, football, Notre Dame College: Playing quarterback, Groove led the Firebirds to a playoff berth and Greater Miami Conference championship with a 9-2 season.
He threw for 1,262 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging 114.7 yards per game. He rushed for 740 yards and 16 touchdowns, making him the third best all time in Lakota.
His passing yards in a season are second all-time and his career passing yards of 2,997 is the district’s record. He was First Team All-GMC.
*Jawan Holmes, football, Carson Newman College: A defensive back, Holmes recorded 42 tackles, two interceptions and one recovered fumble for the Firebirds’ 2013 season. He made Second Team All-GMC.
*Mikel Horton, football, University of Kentucky: During his senior year the tailback ran for 1,203 yards, received 249 yards and scored 15 seasons. He was selected to play in the Semper Fidelis All-American game where he scored one touchdown for the East squad. Horton was First Team All-GMC and All-State.
*Tyler Jones, football, Ohio University: Jones played several positions for the Firebirds. As a junior he had 18 receptions for 256 yards and two touchdowns. Switching to the defensive side as a senior, he recorded 30 tackles and four interceptions in eight games. Jones was a First Team All-GMC.
*Justin Martin, football, Miami University, preferred walk-on: Martin broke the school record this season with a 51-yard field goal. He was 5/6 on field goals and 36/38 on extra points. As a junior Martin was First Team All-GMC and Second Team All-GMC as a senior. He was also selected to play in the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association’s North-South All-Star game.
*Paxston Robinson, football, East Tennessee State: A defensive tackle, Robinson recorded 17 tackles, five tackles for loss and four sacks this season.
*Trent Rogers, football, University of Cincinnati, preferred walk-on: A defensive back, Rogers recorded 47 tackles, five tackles for loss and four pass break-ups as a senior.
*Gabe Welp, soccer, Brown University: A defender, Welp earned the GMC Co-Player of the year and First Team All-State honors.
*Hall Banks, soccer, Cincinnati State: A defender, Banks was First Team All-GMC the past two seasons.
*Lauren Heger, soccer, Ohio University: Captain of the squad, Heger was First Team All-GMC her senior year and Second Team All-GMC her sophomore and junior seasons.
