Bowdeya Tweh reports:
The driver of a Greyhound bus that crashed Sept. 14 in Liberty Township has been cited in the incident.
Dwayne Garrett, 64, of Pleasant Ridge was cited for operating a vehicle without being in reasonable control, according to a crash report the Ohio State Highway Patrol released Thursday.
Thirty-five of the 51 passengers on the bus heading from Cincinnati to Detroit were injured in the accident.
The bus was traveling northbound on Interstate 75 when the bus ran off the right side of road just north of Ohio 129 before 3:50 a.m. The bus eventually struck a fence and a tree. The crash report said the driver was seen slumped over prior to the crash.
Emergency responders responded to the scene about a minute after the initial call was made.
Earlier this week, Ohio State Highway Patrol Lt. Ed Mejia said an investigation into the crash concluded the driver was sipping hot coffee, began coughing and then passed out. No mechanical problems were found with the bus.
No other vehicles involved in the crash. The weather was clear but it was dark and no conditions were known to impact the blacktop on the highway, the report.
The report said the bus was traveling an estimated 68 mph. The freeway’s posted speed in the area is 65 mph.
