A former Liberty Township firefighter has returned to the department after a three-month absence.
Adam Shappelle, who is a certified paramedic, was been reinstated as a part-time firefighter, effective Tuesday. He will be paid $16.60 per hour.
Shappelle worked for the department from September 2008 through June. He asked to be reinstated due to increased availability.
He also works as a career firefighter/paramedic with the Delhi Township Fire Department, where he does inspections and investigates.
Liberty Township Fire Chief Paul Stumpf said he is glad to have Shappelle back, particularly since he’s also a child safety seat technician.
“That’s a service we provide and he’s good at it,” Stumpf said.
Shappelle’s reinstatement brings the department to about 100 career and part-time firefighters, some with limited availability, Stumpf said.
