The fourth annual Crazy Cardboard Boat Regatta is scheduled to take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Voice of America Park in West Chester Township.
This event, which attracts thousands of onlookers, involves participants building a cardboard boat and then racing them in the lake at VOA Park. Awards will be given to the best show boats, fastest boats, as well as the people’s choice, judge’s choice, best theme, best sinking, most entertaining and for the craziest boats.
Entrance into the event is free with a MetroParks’ motor vehicle permit, which are also free to Butler County residents with proof of residency and will be available on the day of the event. Non-residents may purchase daily permits for $5 or annual permits for $10.
All vendors and activities will open at 10 a.m. There will be a special activity area with children’s games provided by Childtime Learning Center, inflatable games by The Ohio State University Buckeye Mobile Tour and a mobile gaming center provided by Gamin Ride.
Registration forms for boat builders can be found on MetroParks website, under general information and then public forms. The cost is $30 for community members (families, individuals, friends, youth groups) or $50 for organizations. Registration is also available on the day of the race beginning at 8 a.m. Registrations close at 10 a.m. All proceeds will benefit the Water Recreation Fund.
