The Caring Like Karen Fund, held at the Community Foundation of West Chester/Liberty, honored six outstanding local caregivers at their first annual Caring Like Karen Awards Luncheon last Friday at the Marriott Cincinnati North.
The Caring Like Karen Fund was established in memory of Karen Mason, a dedicated caregiver who lost her battle with pancreatic cancer in 2012. Karen was unsurpassed in the level of care she provided, and the Caring Like Karen Awards seek to honor caregivers in the Tri-County area who emulate Karen’s love and patience for those in their care.
More than 170 attendees joined in honoring the recipients, which included Bonnie Duff (STNA at Hospice of Middletown), Mary Stroud (family/child caregiver), Lorette “Kaye” Herda (LPN at Cedar Village Retirement Community), Dr. Thomas Scott (Middletown Medical Associates), Maggie J. Pande (Comfort Keepers) and Patricia Rosenberg (Jewish Family Services).
Caregivers focus so much on others and so little on themselves and because of this, it was Karen Mason’s wish that the awards provide something special for the recipients. Therefore, each winner received a personalized gift at the luncheon valued at $1,000.
In addition to the award and prize, State Representative Margaret Conditt, 52nd District, presented each recipient with a special commendation on behalf of the Ohio House of Representatives for their exceptional work as caregivers.
