LAKOTA WEST MANAGER BILL DREISBACH TALKS BASEBALL
It might not feel like spring, but the baseball and softball seasons are about to begin for the Lakota East and Lakota West varsity teams.

Lakota East and Lakota West are each a year removed from district titles, but both schools are well-coached and capable. Lakota East, ranked No. 2, has won at least 22 games in each of the last five seasons. The Thunderhawks have six returning starters led by senior pitcher Lea Buckenmyer (signed with Goshen College) who was second-team All-Ohio and first-team All-Enquirer as a junior. Buckenmyer went 19-7 with 133 strikeouts and a 1.20 ERA; she also hit .432 with 14 doubles and 43 RBI.
Lakota West has seven starters returning from last season’s 23-win team. The trio to watch for the Firebirds are juniors Kat Burbrink, Alyssa Hedric and Ashley Sharp. All three have started together since they were freshman. Sharp (committed to Wright St.) was first-team All-Enquirer last season with a 20-5 record, 11 shutouts and a 1.09 ERA. Burbrink and Hedric, both outfielders, combined for 19 doubles and 56 hits last season.
