Wintry mix, falling temps today

Jennifer Edwards Baker reports:

Wednesday will be damp and cold as light rain this morning switches to a wintry mix with snow showers this afternoon.

The slushy combination will change into all snow showers by late afternoon and this evening, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

No accumulation is expected, perhaps just a dusting, said meteorologist Mike Kurz.

The temperature will dip today as blast of cold Canadian air blows in and sticks around through at least early next week.

It’s 39 degrees with a wind chill of 32 this morning at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. The mercury will push up just a bit to the low 40s by daybreak before falling back into the mid-30s and staying there by 5 p.m. Winds will gust up to 26 mph.

Snow showers will continue overnight. Less than an inch of snow is expected.

By dawn Thursday, more snow will be falling until about 9 a.m. Less than a half inch is possible. The rest of the day will be cloudy with a high of 36 degrees. The overnight low will be 30.

The first weekend of March will be dry but cold, well below normal temperature for this time of year, Kurz said. Temperatures will hover in the low 30s with overnight lows in the 20s and teens.

The cold snap will last through at least Tuesday.

Normally this time of year, the average high temperature makes it to 46 degrees with overnight lows near 30.
