Lakota East captured its first-ever sectional championship in wrestling at Centerville High School this past weekend.
Winning individual sectional championships were Austin Daly and Jacob Burton.
Finishing as sectional runner-ups were Douglas Davenport and Johnny Detherage. Placing third was Daniel Roth and Kolton Wagner. Placing fourth was Justin Brown, Anthony Palacio, and Ryan Durham.
All 9 of these wrestlers are automatic qualifiers for the district championships. Placing fifth and acting as an alternate to districts is Justin Unser-Baumann. Placing sixth was Sam Roth and Corey Howard. In all, 12 of 14 Thunderhawks placed in the sectional championships with 9 moving on automatically to districts.
Districts will be held at Fairfield High School this Friday and Saturday. Action begins at 3:45 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday. The top 4 in each weight class qualify for the state championships.
