Wintry mix today, arctic blast this weekend

Jennifer Edwards Baker reports:

After a sunny, mild day with highs in the low 50s Thursday, an arctic blast will bring a return to more winter-like temperatures this weekend.

The high later will only reach 37 degrees as snow flurries and showers fall off and on between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. The heaviest precipitation will come at lunchtime, between noon and 1 p.m.

Since the roads and temperatures will be above freezing, the snow is not expected to stick to the pavement. It will only amount to a dusting on grassy surfaces, said meteologist Andy Latto.

The snow showers could bring limited, reduced visibility on roads at times.

“It could be hazardous,” he said.

The overnight low will plunge to 22 degrees.

Saturday’s high will struggle to reach the freezing mark with a high of 31 and a wind chill of 15.

Saturday night will be even colder with the mercury tumbling to 18 degrees with wind chills in the single digits.

The temperature will rebound a bit on Sunday with a high of 33 as the sun makes a welcome return. Sunday night will be partly cloudy with a low around 25.

By early next week, daytime highs will return to the 50s and 40s but rain is in the forecast Monday and Tuesday.

Normally this time of year, daytime highs make it to 43 with overnight lows in the upper 20s, Latto said.
