Butler County residents have until Thursday to purchase 2013 dog tags without a penalty.
Tags are $14 through the end of the month. Beginning Feb. 1, the cost to purchase a new dog license or renew a license doubles to $28, which includes a $14 penalty.
By law any dog older than 3 months old must be registered and wear their tag at all times.
Licenses can be purchased online at www.butlercountyauditor.org or at one of several locations in West Chester.

Dog tags can also be purchased in Liberty Veterinary Hospital, 6823 Yankee Road, in Liberty Township.
